Party Flops

So.. who here has hosted a party or been a demonstrator at party.. and no guests turn up ??

Everyone? I thought so!...

The 'maybe there' guest is the nemesis of the 'super hero' party planner (as 'maybe there' really translates into 'I wont be there').

Let's hear some ideas on how to combat our common archenemy.

This is why I hardly ever host parties myself - unfortunately my friends are notorious for saying yes and then not showing...

And not just to party plan parties, this happens with birthday parties too!!

Hi everyone,

It is all about coaching/ training the Hostess. If you train her to have a good show she will.

First and foremost we all need goals in life otherwise we do not perform.  I set all my Hostesses goals. If they have a goal , they will try their best to achieve that for you.

1/ your goal is to have at least 8 ladies at your show. You can do this by asking your friends to each bring a friend.

If you achieve this goal you will receive a Free piece of Jewellery.

2/ Tell your friends it is going to be a fun day with gorgeous jewellery and wine, something they have never seen before.  (If the hostess is excited about the product  she will excite the guests and 9 times out of 10 they will come or go onto the website and order .

3/ I always tell the hostess that she can design a third of the table with pieces that she likes, and she can also tell her friends they can pop onto the website and help in the selection of the table.

This gets eveyone involved and participating, so again 9 times out of 10 it will be a good attendance as now everyone feels attached to a certain piece of Jewellery.

4/ Your goal is to get $200 outside orders from the catalogue or my webpage. If you do , you will receive an extra item for half price. This ensures that if she gets people that say they cannot come, she will tell them to go on the website to look. 9 times out of 10 she will meet this goal as she really wants " that ring for $42 instead of $84"

( this  also ensures that if there are no guests that arrive I will still have the hostess who will buy  plus the outside orders. So it is still a successful party as it could work out to $200 outside orders and $100 from the hostesses approx. So $150 for 2 hours work with no guests. I am happy.!

All of the above does decrease  my chances of having a flop show.

The most important thing by far is I tell my Hostess what is in it for her.

This is what I say to her.

If you have 8 ladies at your show, you will recieve up to $200 Free Jewellery,  up to 5 items half price,  and your free Hostess Gift plus the extra gifts if you achieve your goals.

So it could be around $600 worth of Jewellery for $100.

She can understand this to a T and she will try her hardest to get her friends to come.

She will work for me to make it a success as she wants the jewellery  for next to nothing, so in actual fact she is also working for herself.

Bottom line is I have given my hostess specific instructions and she will try her hardest. She knows what is in it for Her ( a lot) and she wants it, therefor she will work the plan.

I hope I have helped somewhat.

Kindest regards

Marina

I cant really think off too much words of wisdom, but my first rule.

Only do parties with someone who WANTS to do it themselves.  If they dont really want it, or doing it for a friend to get their, $300 in sales plus 2 future parties, to get this gift.  I dont waste my time or theres really.

The thing I find is a lot of women think they do not want a party. Yes I do use incentives and gifts and we do stress that bookings are important. This is the life line of my business. Once the bookings stop I have no business.

If we do not get any bookings the hostess does not get free jewellery. For me the most important person on the day of the show is the Hostess.  I treat her like gold and yes I will do anything to secure 1 or 2 bookings. SHE DESERVES THE FREE JEWELLERY.

I  find that  sometimes you have to be persuasive and convince the guests to have a party even the one that does not really want one.

THE MAIN REASON THEY DO NOT WANT A PARTY IS BECAUSE OF FEAR. THEY ARE SCARED THEY WILL HAVE A FLOP OR BECAUSE THEY THINK NO ONE  WILL COME.

So this is where the HOSTESS COACHING COMES IN.

I WILL COACH AND TRAIN THIS GUEST ON HOW TO HAVE A GOOD SHOW AND WHAT THEY WILL GET OUT OF IT. I wrote a whole chapter in another topic on how I coach the hostess.

Sometimes I will say 'EVEN IF YOU HAVE 2 0R 3 LADIES THAT WILL BE FINE. For me it is about making them happy, and if this  particular guest feels they do not have many friends, I say to them " that is OK. I will still do the party and spoil you.

You need to find out why these guests do not want a party and once you do you can help them.

The most important aspect is getting the COMMITTMENT from the not so enthusiastic guest and once I have done that I will do my job to the best of my ability to make sure they in turn are a good hostess.

I am not sure how I would be wasting my time with someone that booked for the sake of booking.

If I implement my Hostess coaching  it all comes together in the end.

I can tell many stories on difficult guests that do have the best shows for me.

I never feel like I am wasting my time. Ever.

Classic example is a lady called Mary. she was a guest at Grace's show 2 weeks ago. Loved the jewellery and bought $300 worth, but was not interested in doing a show as she was busy, working 24/7.   Now if I listen to indocolina I would not waste my time with this lady called mary.

I said to her I will ask your sister and if she says no can I get back to you. She was iffing and ummming.

Anyway I asked her sister and she said no as well  as she is so busy. So here I have a  show where the sales have been great but no bookings.

What was on the line was $150 in free jewellery for Grace. I went back to Mary and I said " I have asked the girls and they all said no. Grace is going to miss out on $150 free jewellery. Mary, I just need 1 booking.  What date would suit you? ( as i said this i put my diary into her hand and yes she booked  a show.)   It is this Sunday coming and I will let you know the results.

Suffice to say, she has emailed me her wish list of Jewellery and has invited all her workmates, and called me today to make sure I bring all my gold bangles as well.

So for someone that did not  really want to have a party, she is rather excited to say the least.

I really do not waste my time in any sense of the word.

I also think it depends on US, what we feel comfortable in doing, what works for us if we were the hostess, our own style and ability.

I wouldnt try stuff that wouldnt work on me.  Thats just the way I work.  I guess thats why I dont do  'pure' party plan.  But thats not the topic of the thread.

I guess just do what you feel  comfortable with

*bump*

...are there any other techniques people use to ensure their hosts get the numbers?

how about incentives for the guests to turn up themselves (instead of just host incentives)?
