Hi
I was wanting to hear from any other people that have tried to show their products to any playgroups/creches
in their area, how they approached and if they had any success with it..
I am really want to get my name out in the area, and hope to get some party bookings from it all...
I have tried, leaving postcards, flyers around, but as FM is not a well known company not many people have been responding..
Any ideas on how I can get this to work at playgroups etc??
Thanks

Hi Joyce,
As most know I don't do parties, or try to avoid them, I prefer doing one on one, or mass presentations.
Though just today while taking my aunty to the doctors, I shoved the FM list in front of a lady who I also know, and asked what do you like on this "list" she told me, and I had my kit with me, as I take it everywhere with me ( mobile shop), and gave her the sample to try.
Bingo sale!!!!
I am wondering why you leave postcards/flyers etc etc when you can photocopy " The List" which has every fragrance and price available, and also attach your business card to that and do a drop off.... ?????
I have not yet put flyers out for the reason you mention, but the " list" really does work, I suggest you put that out.

I'm a playgroup member, and when I hosted a party, I invited everyone, although only two came. Since becoming a consultant, I've offered parties to everyone, but nobody is currently interested.
The main problem I am finding is that we're a fairly low-income group, and not many of us have a wider social circle, so we all know that even if we all went to each other's parties, we couldn't afford much.
So long story short, not much luck here. :(

I'm heavily involved in my Playgroup committee. My suggestion is give the president a call and ask to go to the next committee meeting to present a fundraising proposal. We struggle with fundraising from month to month and there's always only so many sausage sizzles Playgroup members will put up with. When you get invited to a meeting go along with your kit and copies of the list. Offer to donate a % of sales from each sale that mentions the Playgroup. Suggest that not only do they tell the members but ask the members to let her their family Australia wide know (email them a copy of the list) because ordering is as easy as emailing you or giving you a phone call.

Hi kat,
to make this generic, I understand what you are saying:) and it is not just low income area's that are effected.
Just look at how many people are loosing well paying jobs, and they have suddenly found themselves, in the low income bracket.
Let me tell you - I am no Rich squillionaire ( Yet ) and I have supported some girls here with PP purchase, and frankly if they were not friends i would buy at the shops, a competitor brand, and cheeper.
I think in this day and age, if selling goods that are consumerable, go for anything that anybody can afford.
You know what I would reccomend :)

When I go to my Mum's group - I am not there for sales/bookings/contacts/networking.
I am there as a MUM!!! So, when we were offered the chance of coming in as professionals, and showcasing what we do, I jumped at the chance!
I have had sooooo many ladies contact me about buying products resulting from the event, and in the months to follow it's not funny! Not big selling items, and quite a few run arounds, but on the whole was a really good experience! Plus, I'm still there as a Mum!
Sometimes I will hear my name dropped to others from good experiences which is nice!
But, for a company to come in just to showcase? You would really have to look into it. Enquire! If you don't ask you don't know!
We have strict policies at ours now, resulting from a lady trying to make a recruiting/sales pitch to EVERYONE that walked through the door! She was a regular, but then when she became THAT scary lady that everyone tried to avoid, she didn't come back. - We weren't jumping on the offer, so weren't worth her time obviously!
Good luck! Hope I've helped! Lavina

I agree with KellyG Fund raisers are the way to go! This way they actually get something out of it. As part of your party planning offer them something extra for every booking they get.
I am currently organising a Tupperware fundraiser for my local playgroup - they get either product they can use for raffle prizes later in the year or 10% profit.
I have told them that i will give anyone who brings a friend 5% off a product they choice when they order, this encourages people to bring friends along.
I am also giving anyone who hosts a party 20% off an item of their choice when they have their party to encourage people to date.
It might seem like you are giving alot but it will marginally effect your profit and ultimatly grow your business.
You could also offer a theme - being playgroup why not choose an activity which involves the kids in some way.

...also remind the committee that allowing you to do a presentation/display is a LOT less effort and stress than a sausage sizzle or cake baking + risk free for them. Who doesn't find cash without effort attractive?

I like your idea, Riv_mum! I had one of our mums ask about fundraising for her kindy, and as I'd just started, I had to ask my team leader, and all she said I could offer was the hostess incentives for them to use to get product to raffle off. That seemed to me like it'd be a bit much trouble, since they'd have me in, and then still have to run the raffle to get money.
I didn't think of maybe giving half my cash profits, even if I made it up by having the hostess credit for myself, to buy new stock.

Hey all,
If I ever bother to do playgroups and the like - the ideas placed her are priceless, that no book could provide, as these are living breathing proof idea's that work, and obviousely work well, so thanks heaps, as all FM people can take these on board.
I could only add a great idea will only bare fruit, if put into action, an action to be actioned, as sitting on a great idea will do nothing, and achieve just as much:)

HI ALL
Well thanks for the responses, there are some great ideas here, just work at them and see whether they will at all work..
Richard, I quite like your approach, as showing the perfume list around could definitely create more sales..
I never really thought of that approach as such...
I will definitely consider that..
Thanks again everyone..

Hi Joyce,
As much as I can be a drama queen - I do detest drama, and love the simple things....
The perfume list works - I love it.
As I really have to do very little.
" The List" has every perfume we have, plus pricing, plus a space for you to put your own details.
It covers everything, the only extra you need is your mobile shop for when the person says" Can I try that number? "
As the pricing is so well valued compared to departments stores etc, I find the sales ratio is 1 in 2.5 or 1 in 2, just by handing out "the list" BUT when demoing, it is usually 1 in 1.5, so perfumes sales are a fast, and very easy product to move providing we do something with the tools provided.
Also I find when the person I am selling to, see's what I carry around with me, my two folders, they go oooooooooooooooh is that is it!!!! is that all you carry around, and I say "yep, easy isin't it"
Go get em Joyce :)

Hi,
I have not read the responses so apologies if i double up.
Playgroups have a contact list on their website, so have a look on there and get the numbers for the contact people in your area. I am the contact person for my group and i get quite a few calls about various things from the news wanting to do a story to the council asking for ideas for things in our area, its not just new enquiries for mums.
I would then ask if you could come into the playgroup, set up a table and if anyone want to come over and have a brwose/purchase they can.... offer a cash percentage for the playgroup eg. 10% - 15% of sales to them in cash (or a per bottle basis whatever you prefer)
The key with this is though to make sure that you let people come to you as alot of the people at my playgroup don't have alot of money and well others do.
We have done this with Learning Ladders and sales were in excess of $800, and another time we had a lady come in with shoes and sold them too.
I hosted a fundraiser in my home (purely because i only wanted persons that are interested to be there as there was no point in food being offered to those who weren't) and it was a Foodies party...... Melinda set it up so that there was a pack of goodies where if we bought it we got 20% back in cash and also ased on the rest of the sales we got 15%.
I would be happy for someone to do this at our playgroup as long as there was no pushy business but i think it would be a great avenue for getting people to join as well as most playgroup mums are stay at home mums and sometimesa want an outlet.
For day care centres i think you could use the same method although some do not allow promotion or fundraising so you would have to put it to the directors... i would target the smaller independent centres or council run centres, i know our pre-school is right into fundraisers and for me personally i prefer to get something out of a fundraiser (ie purchase something as opposed to making donations for ...-a-thons etc)
All the best but i think it is a great target, i also think large companies workplaces would be a good idea we used to have heaps come into our work during the lunch break.

I have been following this thread with interest.
Now I have a question to all the MUM's who are experienced with play groups and the like, as I know nothing about them at all. Plus obviousely for Joyce this is from a FM prospective.....
Why????????????? would Joyce not simply do a presentation, and sign the playgroup up direct. meaning the playgroup becomes a distributor.
I have been thinking on this one, and I think that for me to run around and do presentation after presentation to do one off, and perhaps repeate sales, and donate some of the cash money back for fund raising.
My take on it is.... I would go to for example ABC learning, and show them the products/marketing plan, sign them up.... They are their own distributor, and they can use their own mailing list etc etc to sell products for their own center, and take 100% of the profit for their own fundraising????????? Am I not seeing something??? or is that to simple??

That would be too simple
ABC for one has a strict NO Soliciting policy.
Most are run by commitees or boards and you would have a very hard time getting them to agree. Also remember among their customers, they would probably have people working in the perfume industry somewhere that would be upset.
Other board or committee members would not like idea.

Robyn replied:
Yes, I think it would depend on the product, and also on the playgroup/preschool. The preschool that my two oldest girls went to was a Community Pre-school, and I know that they joined Melaleuca as a non-profit organisation, so any orders taken from them went into the pre-school account, and they could benefit from anyone joining under them. Very small pre-school and pretty easy to manage, though they did need a nominated person to take orders etc. Melaleuca had a form especially for this kind of thing.
I know that I did a Mary Kay basket one Mother's Day, had it set up on a table, and people could buy a ticket to go into a draw to win it. They also were entitled to a free make-over with their ticket purchase. So the pre-school got the money from the raffle, and I got names for classes. Win, win!! Again, I guess it would depend on the school.
Hope this helps at all!!
Robyn :)

Hi Jules,
We have some negative vibes today, I said abc as an example, and that does not mean, that every single solatary mums and Bubs things would be like this.
Though I will thank you:)
You have given me resolve to prove you wrong:) and i am sure you hope i do, as that will pave the way for my simple idea :)
So on that note - FM girls with bubs, I will be calling you next week, we have a challenge.

Why not approach Playgroups/creches/any sort of group or club and encourage them to set up their own a/c for fundraising through fragrances?
I think you might really be onto something with that!
Go get 'em! Lavina

Maybe the big guys have policies in place - well who cares:)
Though I am sure smaller places starving for money, would certainly at the very least look at the proposal, and if liked, take it on.
I certainly will now take this on, to try, and keep trying to I succeed, in gaining one, so I can say I got one:)
Than if I can get one a playgroup etc etc, so can my FM girls and Boys, unless they get one first:) before me:) and hope and wish they do:)
