I was so surprised and stunned when i spoke to one of my
new team members today who is 34 years old.
Usually she sounds so bubbly and giggly, but today
she sounded different. When i asked her if something
was wrong she said that she has had 3 mini-strokes in the
last couple of weeks. I couldn't believe it, she's still young!!
Do you know of anyone else that this has happened to
and why it happens?
She is currently undergoing a whole series of tests to see
what caused this. I feel for her, i hope she will be ok.

My sister has a disease called Moya-Moya Syndrome usually found in Asian countries. She has been having strokes since 16. Her kiddies have heart conditions. Shes lucky to be here still as not many make it past 40.(she isnt 40 yet)
Hopefully they will find out the cause and even better a cure or great treatment

My sister had her first stroke at 32.
It was major and she surprised everyone by surviving.
Hers was caused by high blood pressure.
The doctors didn't listen when she complained of constant headaches.

Wow this is close to home!
I have had 3 mini strokes I n 13 years............the most recent one was last year 29th Nov ......the first one I went to the hospital after it happened ...... and they did tests and said I had had a mini stroke. To me a "stroke" meant loss of one side of the body, so I didn't think they had it right so I didnt follow it up with my doctor!!!! The second one I was 42 and pregnant with my 3rd child, this time when I had the symptoms I didn't even seek medical attention!!!! The 3rd one as I said was last year and the only reason I went to the hospital was on the encouragement of my youngest daughter who said...."my god mum lets go, i will drive" and from there I have had follow up tests and then I went to see a neurosurgeon etc etc.
I stopped smoking when I was 19 and started it when I was 38 and have now stopped for more than 2 years, I don't drink only on occasion....I don't have high blood pressure, no one can tell me why I have them, just to becareful as this is a warning of a major stroke or a heart attack is pending!!!
My maternal grandmother had a major stroke, my maternal grandfather had a heart attack and died at 55 my mum has had strokes and a heart attack and lived... at 59 she had that. My uncle on my mums side has had a triple heart by pass when he was 53 and he doesnt smoke or drink! But the say it is not hereditery??!!!
So yes I know what you are talking about lovey.
A friend of a friend has a 9 month old baby and he has had a heart attack!!! That blew me away as I had never heard of one so young suffering such a thing!

I had never heard of mini strokes either until my last pregnancy a couple of yeats when they thought i had one (i was only 24 at the time). I had the loss of speech, couldnt see properly and abit disorientated, after all the tests MRI, heart ultrasound and one for my neck as well it was eventually concluded it was a Migraine. The only way they could tell the difference was by doing all the tests. My old man has suffered numerous strokes (his own fault drug and alcohol related) so they explained to me about family history and what mini strokes were. Very scary but they said if they picked up on it they could take measures to further prevent them. I'm very thankful it was a migraine (all though i got them continuously for the rest of the pregnancy) thankfully i was almost term. But it is amazing they are there and doesn't really matter about the person's age.

My wife had a mini stroke last year she is only 43, cause a blocked corotid artery right side of neck so if you smoke stop.It cant be operated on.
she is ok now but will have to have a mri every 6 months to make sure her 3 other arteries stay open. very scary wouldnt wish it on anyone.
Only a very good local doctor doing a test never done on someone so young found the cause other wise things may have turned out worse.
craig.

These happen more frequently than anyone realises. Sometimes with patients not even knowing they have had one. The feel a little off and keep going only to find out later down the track that they have suffered a mini stroke. Then again the intensity can be so bad that it does stop you in your tracks. Take care of yourselves if you have suffered one or more of these, a little extra care.

I had very similar symptoms about a year ago.
Headache, well more like the old sinus pains in the face. I went and laid down, eventually woke up.
I fell out of bed, my speech was slurring, could not sit up straight, feeling sick, it was very scary indeed.
My daughter rang the ambulance, hubby come rushing home from work and neighbour come rushing to my aid.
They all thought i had had a stroke of some type. But the with the symptoms, i really felt like I was on another planet, in another world!!
Got me to the hospital, had tests done, thorough check over, and to our suprise, the doctors said i actually had middle ear infection.
We couldn't believe it, like one would really have thought I had a stroke, but it was middle ear infection.
It just goes to show, you just never know when things are going to happen, and everything happens for a reason.
thanks
