Hi all,
Just a quick intro post from me.......I stumbled across this site when searching for jewellry party plans.....and what a great site!
I am thinking of venturing into party plan........I have 3 small children, and am looking for a social avenue to create good cashflow.......
I have a marketing backgroud (pre-children), so I am hoping that will stand me in good stead?!
My main question to you all is HOW DID YOU DECIDE WHICH PP WAS BEST FOR YOU??
I am thinking that I will have to be genuinley passionate about whatever product it is?
But I also want a product/company that offers high comission $$?
Is there a directory which outlines the "best" PP? Or is it a case of checking out each potential product individually?
Thanks all, in advance, for sharing your experiences and thoughts.......

Hi welcome. I think you have to check them out individually but i might be wrong. Hope you find one you enjoy and will be passionate about. I know the pp im with you can make up to 50% and thats at all levels at consultantcy.
StampinUp replied:
Not every PP is suited to every person.
Ask yourself, what would you like to do 2 or 3 times per week/month
What are the start up costs? What is the kit total's cost
For eg. *My ENJO kit was over $1000 for it plus business fees. Because I don't have a Fantastic network/friends support to help me plus had a lot of cancellations, I am now having to pay it off myself and it's hurting my pocket! I also have to pay for postage. Customers don't.
*Stampin up! Was a once off joining fee of $375, and this included your kit plus an extension. You then could host workshops and started making money from then on. First order you got 30% off, there after 20%, but customers pay 5% for postage.
I love both PP, but don't know if I would do the ENJO one again given my time over. Too many idealistic dreams of demos, the reality was harsh, and now I'm paying for it! I still will do it to help pay off my kit, because I wouldn't've been able to afford to buy it myself - so I will still have all the products in the end, and that's why I did it in the first place!
Hope this helps a little bit!
All the best with whatever you chose!

Party Plan is different to a 'normal' job. A normal company gives you the 'job' and you develop a love and respect for both company and products.
In most cases, with party plan, you fall completely head over toes for the product and then take it on. You have to love, with a passion whatever it is you do (you have a headstasrt with you way of thinking on this level) so in answer to your question, yes and no, there is always a 'better' party plan than others, in our own minds.
We all 'do' the best party plan - well the best for us anyway - so there is no easy way to find the right one for you. It is simply a matter of researching and asking questions of the individual party plans around.
Most of all find what is spot on for you and then run with it and you will never 'work' another day in your life.
Hope this wasn't to cryptic.

There are a few key aspects to look at I think:
1. Do you love the products and can you speak about them genuinely (this will increase your sales and bookings if the answer is YES!!)
2. At the same time, you cant work for just a love of the product so look at your commission rates! Bonuses available etc. Also weigh this against the average earnings of a party
3. Start up costs
4. Does the PP have minimums you have to make OR do they have a maximum ceiling you can earn?
5. What perks are available and how attainable are they?? e.g company car, international jetaway
6. How much training/support will be available to you? location/time they will spend with you/expertise of your trainer
7. Do you agree with the companies philosophies, creeds and values?
8. Are their products generally popular? are they popular with your demographic?
Any PP person will tell you that theirs is the best, because we all love our PP!! but I would recommend getting this info so you can really nut it out!!

Hi and welcome to the site,
I also found this site a couple of days ago. It certainly is a wealth of information.
I totally agree that you must love whatever party plan you decide to do. I love sterling silver jewellery so I am very much at home talking about my love for the product.
Commission and policies are also important, and research is a valuable tool before committing to any new venture.
Hope to see you around the forums and all the best in your search.
At the end of the day I am sure you will find the information on this site to help you choose wisely.
Have a great day,
Anne

Hi Lucy,
Research, research research!
And there is so much to do when you are looking into PP.
Don't let it put you off, it will all be worth it in the end, as you know you have found the right one for you.
Just one piece of advise - the highest commission rate is not always the best!
Consultants can be hit up for hostess incentive costs and huge freight bills. This can all come out of your big percentage that you get, hence bringing it down.
Look at the companies presentation averages, directly from the company, and work it out from there.
Some PP's offer 30 -50% but their average is only $300, others offer less but their average is a lot higher, so the lesser is better - am I making sense! Probably not, but I hope you get the gist of what I am trying to say.
Good luck with your research, everybody here has so much advise, you will be overwhelmed - so don't be too hasty.
Cheers
Tania

Hi Lucy
The advice that the girls have all given is fantastic - you need to be passionate about the products that you promote but you also need to be passionate about the company.
Obviously the commission that you earn at the party is important but I would also be looking at the possibility of a residual income ie will you receive ongoing recognition for the reps that you introduce into your business and the training/support that you provide them.
I also looked for a company that provided me with several building business strategies e.g online (our company provides us with 4 maintenance free websites - both product and business building); markets/expos; retail; fundraising and education. Your life circumstances may change but you still want to be earning an income.
Also the company itself - do you share their vision and values (or do they share yours?), do they provide ongoing support and training, are they innovative, are they market leaders, do their products suit your needs and your family needs, what about communication - I can e-mail the company directors and receive a personal response within 24 hours.
Spend the time doing the research now and your time will be rewarded. Are you passionate about organics? Check out www.origanon.miorganicfuture.com or e-mail me and we can chat
Good luck
Steph
