Discussions : Boost your bookings : No more parties

Hi Everyone. I know this is a really strange thing to have just before Christmas, but I have absolutely no parties booked at the moment.
I have tried all my regulars and they are buying candles from me but not actually having parties. Everyone is telling me that they don't have the disposable income to spend anymore. What am I doing wrong? I went to a tupperware party yesterday and the hostess got $700 in sales with 9 people in attendance and 3 outside orders with one booking!! Why can't I get that???
Please help me. This time last year I was very busy, now nothing. My business is dying quickly and I don't know where to start to revamp it. I need your help people please.

I know exactly how you are feeling I have only 4 booked up till Christmas at this stage. I have tried everything!!! I found that I picked up a couple of party bookings and orders from going to a market night. There are alot being held around at the moment at schools and kinders etc coming up to christmas. Maybe that might be worth your while. It only cost me $15.00 and that was covered by the sales and party bookings.
Goodluck and I hope you pick up. Let me know how you go.

Thanks for your input Sienna and cats. I have checked the url for my website and hopefully it's working now. Please let me know if it's not.
I have a market night to go to on 1st November hopefully I will get something out of that! Fingers crossed anyway. I sometimes don't think I'm assertive enough and believe that all our wonderful products should sell themselves and that people should be wanting to have parties for me. Am I wrong in this assumption? Come on all you lovely ladies who have so many parties, please tell me what's your secret. Is it me, the products, my incentives or the whole thing??

Hello candlesnthings,
I too am like you - i think i am not assertive enough,
but i do believe that our products are wonderful and sell themselves.
Maybe sometimes this is all you need. To believe in your products and
believe in your Company, I think the rest just follows.

Are you asking people if they want to have a party ? I know it seems like a pretty lame question, but if you don't ask the question you don't get .
Just remember at these ladies market nights, there are consultants that ask and consultants that don't ask. Who do you think is more likely to get the party ? Consider that people are busy and they only have time for so many parties, especially at this time of the year.
The worst thing that can happen is they say no, so what have you got to lose ???
also, ring up all your previous hostesses and see if they would like to do a party.
cheers

Hi hon,
I have pm's you with some hints to help you out. But I will share this idea here also as it works a treat for me.
When setting up your trade table, have (if possible) a table christmas tree and decorate it with lovely christmas gift tags with your offer or prize giveaway. For example:
"Congratulations! you will receive $25.00 to spend at your Christmas Candle Party"
You can create any gift tag idea. Stampin up used to have these booking stamps which are very useful to stamp on your gift cards. But any christmas stamp will do if you make your own.
For candles try making small melts and wrap in cellophane, stick to inside of small christmas card with this saying insid "merry christmas, enjoy our small gift, book a party today and receive $20 mystery Xmas pack at your party"
reword it how you like.
you can also add a candy cane etc. Make you table 'eye popping' and a must have items.
You can do this, don't give up and let us know how you go on the 1st November.

7 Reasons Why Buying Candles makes Wonderful Christmas Presents?
ArmCandy replied:
I wish I had an answer for you! Part of being slow is this time of year- my business is very slow from end of November through Christmas and clear into March before it picks up again! I have worked my butt off to make sure I had bookings in December- and guess what- they've ALL canceled on me. Not a fun thing- when I just had our 3rd daughter 3 weeks ago- and was really counting on the income for Christmas money!
If you've exhausted all your contacts from the past- try some other things. I'm always doing different things- and switching tactics- so I'm always getting anew influx of people- as well as not tiring out my old customers asking for parties and sales.
Research and find ANY AND ALL expos/fairs/holiday shopping things that you can enter from now through January and February etc.. They will probably cost you some money to do- but just do it. Make sure you have a box out where people browsing can enter to win something- This is how I get a ton of leads and add contacts to my mailing list- Who eventually usually will buy something and book a party- even if it's 6 months or 12 down the road! It's worth it in the long run. I also have a couple of boxes they can check- like "Im interested in hosting a party" and "I'm interested in upcoming events" "I'm interested in Sales" "i'm interested in Style updates" etc.. that way- I am getting permission to mail them info- even if they only want "sales"... If I only had "want to host" most people wouldn't check it- and then I would just be spamming them- but by giving them more options to wantt o join- I can them include them in my Mailings- which talk about style updates/sales/events and hosting specials etc all year long. Also explain you won't hound them or sell their info to any one else/companies! I've asnwered some posts on here about how to do successful expos/booths etc- so take a look at them. In March we do one here- and last year we had over 75 parties booked from it- so that one is obviously a good one here in the states- it helps keep us busy through summer- until the busy season starts to pick up!
When you have nothing left- try some "brute force marketing" as I call it.
Make up flyers and go stick them on car windows at stores- stick them in newspaper boxes/on front doors etc... do ANYTHING- put flyers up at stores- I know this method is not the best way to get customers- because it's a lot of time and effort and usually not a great return- but when you have NOTHING- getting 1 or 2 parties booked from this way is worth it- I was in a similar situation when I first started out- and I uped my game- I worked 20 times as hard as I did before- and I went out and did some flyers- and I actually got phone calls and parties booked- despite the fact i had read in b ooks/online not to use this method for getitng parties- that it wasnt worth it... Sure I did a lot of work for 2 bookings- but I got bookings from those parties and bookings from those etc... so in the long run- I gained 10+ parties I never would have had!
Best of luck!
