When to call back

Discussions : Questions and answers : When to call back

I need some advice on how many times to call a customer back.

I had a customer call me a week and a half ago wanting information on booking a party. She called me thru a letter box drop I did within 24 hrs so I thought she must be pretty keen. I sent out the info straight away and called her last Friday to see if she recieved the info and if she would like to book a party, I got the answering machine and left a message.

Im wondering if it is too soon to call her again now or should I wait a few more days?

Thanks

Kirsty

Strike while the iron is hot.

Statistics indicate that after 48 hours people tend to forget the reason why they wanted a party or purchase an item.

People tend to get busy and returning your call may be at the bottom of that persons list. eg it is school holidays her in Victoria. I would try again to reactivate the sizzle.

I struck while the iron was hot and she isnt interested. Dont know what Im doing wrong. I have advertised in school newsletters put a4 flyers up and also done letterbox drops. I cant just sit here waiting for someone to call me but I dont know what else to do. I know I have only been doing this for 2 months so I should give myself a break but I cant help but get frustrated uuuurgh

Don't worry Kirsty.
You are not alone, sometimes people can be non-responsive.
Unfortunately these things take time.
Some people are lucky and they fire up straight away and with others myself included it does take time.
Sometimes people need to become familiar with you to see that you are interested in what you are doing and not a fly-by-nighter. so many people join new companies, do it for a little while, dont fill orders, dont deliver peoples products etc. and completely dissappear. This makes it more difficult for us who are genuinely serious and they tarnish our industry.
My mother always said one word to me from the day i can remember and she continues to say it. "PATIENCE"!
and its true, you just need to be patient and persevere. Prove to people that you are here to stay!

I am sorry to hear that she was not responsive.

No you are not doing anything wrong. PP is a numbers game.

At least now you know rather than keep on wondering. Did you take advantage of the call and ask her if she wanted to remain on your mailing list? This would give you the opporunity to contact her at a later stage.

Best of luck, and keep up the good work.

Kelly replied:

I agree with Cris - this profession is all about numbers. Perhaps you could put a small gift with a card in her letterbox saying - "Thank you for your interest in my business. I understand that we are all really busy these days. If, in the future you would like any further information please feel free to contact me anytime on (insert Ph). Thanks again. Warmest regards ...etc"

When we say a numbers game its about how many people you see/talk to everyday about what you do - some will say no, some not now, some tell me more, other will book on the spot. Personally I try to make contact with 10 new people a day - it gets you way out of your comfort zone but if you are serious you need to put yourself out there at times.

My stats for example are - for every 6 people I have at a party I usually get 2 bookings. For every 8-10 people I talk to about the business 1 maybe 2 will want to do what i do.

Remember a no is not a rejection of you (so dont take it personally). They are just saying they dont need what you have right now. In this case always ask if you can give them your card for future reference

Be patient and good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement guys. She actually said she had changed her mind cause she found the clothes I sell old fashioned. Maybe that was an excuse. The area Im in is a hard area (yarra valley) Think I might focus a bitter further down the line Montrose, Croydon, Ringwood area etc.

Thanks again for the support
