Can You Help Me?

My husband works in the mines at Roxby Downs. Samred (thank you so much) offered some brilliant advice on the town however after visiting the town we have decided not to move there. However if my daughter and I move to Adelaide we will still gain an extra day with my husband which is important to us. My question to you is where is a nice place to live where house prices are not to expensive and are family friendly? I don't mind the country so long as there are decent shops within a reasonable amount distance. We were looking at Victor Harbour but keep getting told it is just a retirement place. Then we are told stay away from here stay away from there. Can anybody help?

If you're looking at the country, the Clare Valley or Barossa Valley are quite lovely - both have some well established shops, Clare I know for sure now has Target, Woolies etc.
If you want to live closer to town, Golden Grove/Wynn Vale is reasonable priced and a fairly nice area.
Victor Harbor is nice, though it's a long way from Roxby.
I've heard that the new developments North of Elizabeth are good to - not gonna vouch for that personally though.

There really are so many places to choose from ,these are only my opinions.  If you'd like me to put in my two bob on any other place, then I'm happy to do that to.

I hope you find something you like soon.

I am assuimg your husband is on a FIFO roster? (Fly in fly out), so you won't want to be spending hours driving to and from the airport every few weeks.

I suggest McLaren Vale, Willunga, Sellicks Beach (my home town!), Aldinga.  There are either beach properties(Aldinga/Sellicks), or more rural (willunga) and even a mix of the both in the middle of the Wine industry, McLaren Vale.

You have all your essential shops and its not too far to drive to Marion (1/2 hour-45 mins) which has a HUGE Westfield.

The Schools are of good quality (well they were when I was there) and definatley family friendly towns. There are all sorts of festivals/fairs and other things going on so its very easy to become part of the community.

The housing is probably on par with anywhere else and the area is growing.

If you have any other questions, ask away! Good luck with finding somewhere!

Yes I should have mentioned that it was FIFO. He will be flying in and out of Adelaide airport so yeah I don't want to be spending to long on the drive especially once my little one starts school. By moving we are only gaining an extra day with him but that's well worth as far as i'm concerned.

My husband has found what he thinks is a great property at Cadell, can anyone tell me how far away this is from real shopping. I know it is a couple of hours drive from Adelaide so is probably at it's limit in the travelling time frame. I know there is a correctional training facility there (which i'm not too sure about).

Thank you both so much for your input I will look into the areas both of you have mentioned.
