Hi all, couldn't find questions and answeres so i came here.  I am about to see an accountant and I need to know if I say partyplan consultant or direct seller? that was question one. Now when you have your accountant, how many times do i need to see them and how often? question three. Seeing as this can be expensive, can you claim their services back on tax time? question four. Are there any of you that see your accountant just for this business or does everyone have it entwined with their other career or partners tax. I know i may seem daft where this comes in but i am very inexperienced with this type of thing and anything to do with running a business. Also if anyone that has had to deal with centrelink or housing administration when they first started, this would be a real good time to jump in and give advice, as anything i do effects me with this two groups.

Hi Magic1,

I am new at this too, but know some things about accountants....

1. Not sure...

2.1 You can claim your accountants services, they will usually claim their service from the previous year the next time you go in... if that's annual/personal.

2.2 For personal - normal deal you visit once a year, and take all your receipts from expenses you had to pay out that year to work as a party plan consultant, along with your earnings. Normal fee for this small service for people with ABN numbers and small business runnings is around $150

For more involved businesses, you will likely need to see your accountant over the 4 quarters of the year for GST purposes... cost (in Melbourne) could generally be around $300 per quarter.

Not sure about centerlink or housing... sorry.

Hope this helped in some way?

ok, just spoke to the person who will be my accountant and the inital price to go through everything and make sure i am setup  properly with ABN etc is $110 per hour and then $99 at tax time,he wasnt kidding when he said it could be very daunting and i might fall off my chair to hear hourly quotes, ok hopefully this time next year i will  be saying "oh yes, it was worth all the stress" here is a TOAST to all you that struggled with it and succeeded.
