Hi everyone,
I just stumbled upon this website - great idea! Im a teacher on maternity leave and thinking about doing something that will keep me interested, that I enjoy and that I can build upon for at least the next few years. So far Ive looked at chefs toolbox, learning ladder and lorraine lea but am confused about what to go with ie: interest vs return.... do i go with the one Im most interesed in and think i could sell or do i go with the one im not as into but know would give me higher income... Im based in Brisbane and would love some tips!

Hi there!
Welcome to the site. I'm sure you'll get lots of helpful info here about lots of different PP's you can choose between.
My personal belief is that you need to go with something you are interested in and passionate about because that is what is actually going to get you the sales and bookings. You might get more comm from selling other products but if you aren't passionate about it, it will show and you aren't going to get the sales anyway. Plus, can you imagine spending hours each week preparing for parties, ringing people, presenting etc about products you don't care about...
So now, I am going to be totally biased because I am a Learning Ladder Sales Advisor myself...but if you are a teacher doing LL is great because you would already know a lot about education and educational products...and this gives you SO much credibility in selling it. You are going to be believable selling this stuff because you KNOW it is good coz you are a teacher...you know what I mean...?
I'm in a very similar situation, I actually teach at tertiary level and am doing this while my kids are young. I love that my kids get to use all these great products plus my husband is a teacher too and so he uses all of the books and games in his classroom at school also.
Anyway, I have added you as a friend...and so if you are interested in finding out any more about Learning Ladder please let me know and I'd be happy to send you some info via mail or email...but if you decide this isn't for you that's cool too and I wish you luck!

Hi there. Welcome & I'm glad you stumbled across us.
I agree with Mrs G. go with something you love yourself.
It is so much easier to sell a product you use/believe in than
anything just because of return (my opinion).
I too sell products relating to children so as a teacher & parent
you will possibly relate to my product also. The company I sell for
is Job Joggas & we sell chore magnets, toilet training products &
money box systems. Feel free to take a look at our website which
gives you our starting story, full product list to view & even testimonials
from people who have purchased from us worldwide. I would love to talk
with you some more so I will add you as a friend & if your interested you
can contact me for further details. Being in Brisbane is no problem because
our head office is actually in North Tamborine Qld.
Good luck & i hope you find the product for you!!!!!!!

Hi Expo Mum and welcome to this great site,
Take a look around and see what pp may be for you..there are so many out there to choose from..
I myself had never sold pp products prior to joining my chosen company..I am a trained div 1 nurse/midwife...but was looking for a way to make extra money...as with teachers wages/ nurses' wages are difficult to live on....and support a family.
So 2 years ago, l found Fifth Avenue Collection Jewellery...and it is the best decision l made...the commission is one of the best around and the company is family owned. There are so many great things l could tell you about Fifth Avenue Collection...so if you would like to hear more...please add me as a friend..and l can email some info to you..
I never thought of myself as a "jewellery" person...but the product is so beautiful it sells itself...and now l just love popping on my rings and earrings before l leave the house....because everyone always comments on them.
I think with the state of the economy and the rising cost of living...looking at ways to increase your income is so important.
Good luck with your decision, take care...
Cheers....Kathy

Hello and Welcome to this wonderful site.
You have definately come to the right place for tips and advice.
Personally I think you need to find something that you are passionate about. In my particular case i had been with a couple of other party plans but was searching for something that had that WOW factor!! I had no real idea of what i was looking for but i knew i would know it when i saw it. It was like alight bulb moment for me when i came across the owner of a Brisbane based company called All Things Indian. The owner, Marty is one of the most lovely down to earth people i have ever come across. Marty had been the Australia Rep for the past 10 years raising an amazing $152,000 for the ICMC Orphanage in Salem India. He had been there and had seen first hand how the funds helped and decided to start his own company where 40% of the companies profit goes direct to the orphange. I knew instantly i wanted to be involved as i just love children so much and also have a real passion for helping people.
We sell gorgeous curtains, cushions, quilt covers, wall hangings, table cloths, placemats, napkins, handbags, gift boxes, notepad and pen sets etc and when i saw the products in person i was totally blown away!!!! They are made or beautiful Indian Silk in the most vibrant colors. All beautifully lined to a lovely finish. Please visit my website www.freewebs.com/allthingsindian if you would like to know more.
Best thing is we dont have any targets so no unrealistic pressures are placed on you in anyway. You simply do what you can when you can. No sales targets, No weekly ring ins, No minimum starter parties etc.
I wish you luck in chosing the right plan for you. And look forward to seeing you in the chat room some time
Kind regards
Snazza

Hi Expomum, Nice to meet you! I have just been told about this site, I had no idea it existed! It seems like a great way to meet people. I have been a Manager with a very successful party plan company (none of which you mentioned) for over 7 years and enjoy driving a beautiful company car, have had some wonderful overseas trips and win lots of pressies at the same time as enjoying a great income and looking after my three kids. Would love to tell you all about it, I know that you would love it, the product sells itself and you meet lovely new people everyday. I am also based in Brisbane so would love to catch up. Hope to hear from you soon. A xx Turnitup

Thanks for all your replies! I have taken a look at some of the companies websites who responded so thank you!
MrsG, I tried to message you personally but the site wouldnt let me reply??? Ive therefore put that reply below - Ihope thats ok!
Hi Mrs G!
It was interesting to get a few different replies to my initial intro post on this website! Everyone seems so keen!
Being a teacher and LL consultant, I would love to 'pick your brain'! Learning Ladder is the company Im leaning more towards at present because the books are lovely - and of course, educational. I just went through the catalogue and ticked about 20 things that I would love to buy for myself! I do think I could sell this product and totally understand what you mean about credibility (being a teacher). I had a meeting with an area consultant yesterday and although I love the product, Im unsure that time invested per party would be enough considering income. ie: I guess per party would be around 3 hours (inc travel time). Apparently average sales for the complany are $350. I dont think that I can justify earning less than $70 for 3 hours work when working with eg Lorraine Lea, I could earn $180 for 3 hours work (their company ave is $900). Also, their 'incentives' dont seem that appealling to me (pearl necklaces???). Although I dont want to work for a company just for the goodies I get, I have to be realistic and think about potential income. What do you think about this?
I'd be interested to hear from someone who is with the company and would love to know details such as hours/income etc you have personally gained with the company/

Hi Expo Mum..

Wow...$70- for 3 hours...l cant get my head around that...afterall with my chosen PP -Fifth Avenue Collection, l can earn $300- for 2 hours of fun....
But each to there own....for me it is about putting more money on the table (so to speak...) but that of course is not the case for everyone..
I wish you luck in your search.

Hi expomum and welcome to the site,
You seem to have your head on straight and are approaching this from a logical perspective. I really do think that you need to believe in what you are selling to be successful in party plan - it is such an 'intimate' (for want of a better word) environment - going into peoples homes, meeting their friends and family - that it will soon be obvious if you don't really care about the products and that will pretty much kill your credibility. If you are passionate about what you are selling it becomes infectious and your sales will increase = more income for you. But I also agree that you have to weigh up all the pros and cons and decide if the benefits of each company are what you want. You need to look at all the other factors involved as well, such as start up costs, and ongoing costs, what the bonuses are etc.. and also what is expected of you. Are there monthly sales targets that you have to reach? As a new Mum, do you want the stress of having to maintain a certain level, when we all know life with a baby can be very hectic?
Anyway, just a few extra things to think about! Good luck with your search and let us know how you go.

hmmm,
i dont have time to read everyones replies to that but im sure they are all right!
My opinion is, you dont want something that is being sold around you everywhere, people get sick of it!
Also, some companies you have to do alot of EXTRA work, ie, deliveries and money collection, so i personally would stay away from those ones.
My company, you do the party you post them the payment slips and its all done. (of course there is the odd one that makes more work for you like all party plans)
Hope that helps,, good luck with your venture!

Hi expomum and welcome to the site
You have to do what you will get enjoyment out of and a product that you love, as if you sell something you are not passionate about, you will soon tire of it and give in. There are heaps of great pp's out there, you just have to choose wisely!!!
Good luck,
Belinda

Hi expo mum, Welcome i have just read your post and noticed that you mentioned chefs toolbox as one of your interests, a lot of our consultants are actually teachers as you are still teaching while doing these party's, the money is good as well, if you would like more info my email is letsgocoking@gmail.com.
All the best

That's right ! You don't want something that is sold around you everywhere. ***FOODIE PARTIES IS NEW***
People do get sick of it ****FOODIE PARTIES IS NEW AND PEOPLE WANT TO BOOK AND ATTEND PARTIES***
Some companies do have a lot of extra work
****FOODIE HOSTESSES DO NOT COLLECT ANY MONEY****
****FOODIE PARTIES HEAD OFFICE DELIVERS ALL ORDERS IN INDIVIDUAL PACKAGES TO THE HOSTESS WITH A PERSONALISED THANKYOU NOTE TO EACH GUEST FROM EACH INDIVIDUAL CONSULTANT*****
My company, you do the party you post them the payment slips and its all done.
****FOODIE CONSULTANTS DO UP A TALLY SHEET AFTER THE PARTY EMAIL IT TO HEAD OFFICE AND THEN THE ORDERS GO OUT****

Hi expomum
Agree with other posts, selecting a pp you are happy with above income promises is the way to go - much easier to sell something you are passionate about and enjoy doing.
Don't know if you have heard about Get A Little Personal or not (range of boutique and personalised products for babies and children and some gifts for parents too). It is also reasonably new and so easy to get parties as people have not seen it before and I find it lots of fun.
If you would like to find out more feel free to message me.
Good luck with your decision.

Hi! I have just started with Lorraine Lea Linen. This is a fantastic PP to join. The kit is full of everything that you will need to get started. At the moment it is half price so you will get around $900 or more for $290. There is support from other team members and advice on hand when you need it. You recieve training before you do your first party so you are not thrown into the deep end. The linen is quality.
If you want a PP where you can make money straight up without having to outlay a huge expense then I think you would find Lorraine Lea would allow that. All materials ie catalogues, samples, invitations, order forms, folders, page protectors, promotional materials all come with your kit.
I was AMAZED at the amount of stuff that I got in my kit!! You have the potential to earn good money with this PP. You don't have to collect money from customers or deliver the linen either! It is all taken care of for you.
So, if you want to make money, not hand it over straight up then Lorraine Lea can help with that. There are fantastic discounts and rewards. And the ability to become manager if you want to with no pressure to recruit all the time or get parties to stay in the company. If you would like any info Pm me please. I also live in the Brisbane area. I have a wonderful manager who I feel very comfortable with and she is so encouraging without being pushy, which I love! lol
So I hope this helps you a little and wish you all the best with what PP you decide on!! Take care
