Hi Everyone!
Well I'm a newbie to this site and also to the world of party plan. My husband and I have just relocated to Geelong from Central Vic with our 7 month old son. I started maternity leave in October last year to have my little boy and have no plans to put him into care or go back to work full time, but that said I am very interested in getting involved in something that I can determine my hours and work around when hubby is home so our boy is always with one of us.
I have been to an UCW party a few times and really liked their product, also think chocoholics anonymous sounds great. But I am interested in hearing more stories from other party plans so that I can make an educated decision as to what I will do. I would like to think that I could do a couple of parties furing the week on weeknights and then on weekends as well and would like to think that I could earn and extra $250 - $300 per week, more would be great but I don't even know what is realistic and what is not.
Any advice, information etc would be much appreciated. I am also concerned as to just having relocated how I would go with booking parties considering I have no family to lean on for the first few. Anyway I'll stop typing and await your advice.

Hi there Jess and Welcome to this wonderful site.
You will get many people replying to your post i am sure so you will have quite a bit of reading to do :)
Firstly I just wanted to say i Love Geelong!! In fact thats my football team!! Plus it is such a pretty place!!
I know exactly how you feel not wanting to put your young son into care. I use to work full time at Telstra in their complaints dept!! The people there were great but when i had my son who is nearly 21 months old there was no way i could put him in care and go back to work. But at the same time i needed something for "me" Party Plan is great for that. Providing you join one that dosnt place any unwanted stress on you to out perform what you are truly capable of fitting in with a baby so young.
I would love to give you some info about the Party Plan I am with. Its called All Things Indian and is really different from most Party Plans in that there are No Sales Targets, No minimum starter parties, No weekly ring ins. No pressure and no fuss. You simply work the hours you can to fit in around your family. Depending on your sales you would earn between 25% - 35%. You receive 40% off your own purchases.
We sell the most beautiful Home Furnishings. Such as Quilt Covers, Table Cloths, Table and Bed runners, Wall Hangings, Curtains, Place Mats, Napkins, Bottle Bags, Handbags, Cushions, Gift boxes, Note pad and pen gift sets and the list goes on. Most of our items are made from Indian silk in the most vibrant of colors. We are a fully Australian owned Company. 40% of our companies profits go direct to the ICMC Orphanage in Salem India to help with much needed funding. So not only do you earn great commission for yourself but you know you are helping so many children.
I have added you to my network so please dont hesitate to contact me if you would like an info pack sent to you.
Please also visit my website http://www.freewebs.com/allthingsindian and good luck with your decision. I hope you love Geelong as much as i do :)

Hi Jess
Welcome to the PP site- whatever you choose you will definately have a great support network on here!!! And great ideas and tips to get you business started
I myself am also a SAHM and would much rather do this than go to work and have to put son in childcare- I would rather be at home, and earning money.
I am a Nutrimetics Consultant and have been since Feb this year. I stumbled across Nutri when I had some problems with my skin after having my son= could find nothing at all to fix it and then I found Nutrimetics Comfort Range- this is what seriously made me join- so I could get the min of 20% off the skin care set- then I looked into it further and loved that they offered eith catalogue consultancy or to run your own business as a consultant- so I took the plunge and I havent looked back.
I now love all the products that Nutrimetics has- starting from akeup, to skincare, mens products, body care, even shampoo and house cleaning porducts- the bonus is- it is all natural as well!!!
The minimum you get with Nutrimetics is 20% commission- this can go up to 45% depending on how much you sell each month. There is also cars, holidays, fre products and soo much more that they offer!!! I actualy got asked to go the convention in Qld this year as well!!! Unfortuantly I cant- but this is just the beginning.
I have heaps more info so if you are at all interested in Nutrimetics!! Please msg me- Id be happy to help out
Good Luck with you search :)

Welcome to the site....you will find great people and great information on here.
I am with Lorraine Lea Linen (a Melb based complany) and I thoroughly enjoy it. I have been with them for 3 years. I originally joined to make a large some of money($10000) in a short amount of time (7mths). As I had been with other party plan companies I wasn't sure if it was possible but it was. I got my money which has built our brand new home and I am still doing linen parties as I now can't give it up and it is an addiction. Oh, and the money s fantastic...
Our company party average is $900
We do not do deliveries or handle money
There is no minimum monthly parties or sales
The linen sells it self
And....we have a fantastic joing offer at the moment...only $290
Please have a look at our website....www.linenparties.com.au
If you would like to chat, feel free to pm me.
Enjoy your adventure in finding what is good for you!!!

My only advise is to find something that you love - and I mean absolutely love, can't live without yourself - then you have the first step, believing in your product all wrapped up. Then join the company that sells it.
Good luck, beginning a new venture is a hard and sometimes daunting step.

Jessica,
Good luck finding a party plan that works for you. You obviously want a certain financial return on what you do (and I think the figures you suggest are quite reasonable, if you are willing to work hard), so investigate the initial investment and ongoing costs of any PP before you commit. I suggest having a look at Sashels post on this topic, she raises some good points which you may wish to consider: http://www.partyplan.com/forum/article5928/deciding-party-plan-helpful-hints/
I agree with LadyWytch that you have to ABSOLUTELY LOVE the product and be completely confident in the company if you are going to represent them. If you have any doubts, iron them out BEFORE you sign up!
Do your research: most PPs will gladly send you an information kit, so take the time to read through a few contracts and find the ins and outs. Choose what is right for you, don't be pressured into signing up because you don't want to disappoint the person introducing you to the opportunity.
Having said that, it is also important that your upline is someone you can work with. If you have ambitions to be successful and they are really laid back, you won't be getting a lot of help from them. The opposite is also true: if they are totally commited to the business, they might not want to understand your family obligations and pressure you to put your nose the grindstone!
I'd be happy to send you some info on my pp (greeting cards and stationery) if you are interested. Best wishes with your search!

I am with Chocoholics Anonymous. The income isn't as high as a lot of other PPs as the product is lower priced. But, if you work hard I am sure you could achieve the income you want.
I just want to point out also, that CA is one of the few party plans (in fact the only one I am aware of) that does not have "uplines" and there is no recruiting. That was a big factor in why I joined them, along with the love of chocolate!
Good luck in whichever you chose, and as someone else said, it really should be something you LOVE, not just like. I couldn't sell any of the other products for that reason. Well, actually if I was going to do anything else it would probably be phoenix trading (cards etc).

Hi Jess, welcome to pp. As all the other ladies have said you have certainly come to the right place to find the right pp for you. I guess we all have different reasons for joining pp so I will share mine with you. I had been a sahm for the past 16 years and loved every minute of it! As the kids have grown older I decided to look for something ( not knowing what at that stage) but knew I only wanted something part time or casual as I wasn't ready and nor were my kids, to go back to full time work. Over 17 months ago I was invited to a party called "Gekho" which is who I am with now and have been for the last 16 months. Gekho products include jewellery, bags, shoes, crystals as well as stirling silver. I fell in love with it when I first attended a party! Not only was it very affordable but was absolutely funky and stylish jewellery. The company is fantastic to work for and there is always training and support there for you.
We have a website which is www.gekho.com.au
If you are interested and would like to know anything more about "Gekho" I would be more than happy to answer any questions, add me as a friend and I can send you out some information etc
Best of luck

ejsmum replied:
Hi Jess and welcome,
My husband comes from Geelong and we have a lot of friends and family down there, so we are there all the time - I think it would be a nice place to raise a family, but I am a city girl at heart I guess, so not ready to give it up just yet! I hope you are settling in well.
Everyone has mentioned some really great points to consider, but I think at the heart of your decision is a love of the products you are selling - no amount of commission or bonuses or fancy perks will bring you success if you don't believe in what you are trying to sell. I think your targets are certainly realistic, and the real beauty of PP is that you and only you are in control of your income. The more you put in the more you get out. It certainly beats working 9 - 5 for a boss who doesn't appreciate you!
I started with my pp at about the same point in my life as you have - I had an 8 month old son (who is now 2 1/2 - can't believe it) and this opportunity literally fell in my lap - I certainly wasn't looking for it, and in fact had never had anything to do with any sort of party plan in my life, but because I am such a book addict, it was the perfect company for me, and I have certainly achieved more than I ever thought I would.
Well, after my little ramble my advice is to make a list of what I call the 'non-negotiables' in your life, and make sure that your chosen company can fit your requirements. We all know how hard life is with a baby, so you certainly need some flexibility - if you find yourself stressing out to meet monthly sales quotas, then it is not going to be worth the trouble. But you have come to the right place for info and support, so good luck and let us know how you go.
As for getting started without a close network nearby, well it will depend of course on what you are selling, but getting out into your local community through markets, fetes, fundraisers etc.. is a great way to meet interested people. You just have to find where your target audience is and then get in front of them. Some targeted advertising (if permitted) could be a good starting point as well. Have a trawl through the posts here - there are some good ideas about networking etc.. just can't think of any specific posts at the moment. It can be tough without friends and family to help you get started, but it is certainly achievable with a bit of legwork and persistence. Also check the Events section of the forum for upcoming events in your area that you could be a part of.
Follow the link below to have a look at our website, and if you have any questions or would like some info, please feel free to message me and let me know.
Good luck!

Hi Jess
Welcome to the forum.......
I must say you have already received lot's of great advice here already....so I won't go into too much detail.
I have been with the company I represent for 7 years, like you I did not want to return to the normal 9 to 5 job and leave my children in care.....I understand also about wanting to earn enough money for this to happen. I currently manage a group of 25 ladies scattered all over Australia and I work closely with them to achieve exactly what they want.....We don't have sales targets but I do help you set ralistic goals. We do ask you to make a commitment and to have a cetain amount of presentations, but this is so that you hit the ground running. We also get you to rent our kit so that we can add new products to your kit each month at no charge to you and if you find out it doesn't work you can return the kit and not be out of pocket for thousands. Also you will get great training and support that will help you make this a success. Lastly, we ask that you put your family first and always work around them.....
Anyway check us out and let me know what you think.

Hi Jess
Welcome to the forum. This is definitely the place to check out everything thats available in the world of Party Plan, which is the happening industry of the moment. I would love the opportunity to show you our business plan, and as such have sent you a connection request.
I am a mother of two young girls. Last year I quit my job of 12 years to start my own Party Plan company. Our head office is in a big old house in Brisbane (not my home though !) and we have a big yard where the kids can play and be with us during the week, for the littlies and during the school holidays for our older ones. My business partner has 3 kids as well !!! I definitely know where you are coming from with regards to spending time with the kids !!!
Our company is called Foodie Parties. We are new and we are different and the income that you are talking about is very much a reality and right from the very start !
If you would like some quick info check out www.foodieparties.com.au and if you want some more info about the business opportunity, send me a message with your contact details. I would love to talk to you.
Best regards and good luck with your search !!! Ladywych is right; it needs to be a product that you love.

Hi there!
Well, as has already been said, there is lots of info here for you to wade thru...but I'll throw in my 2 cents worth....
I thnk you can absolutely earn that amount of money per week if that is want you want out of it. The difference of course between PP and a 'normal' job so to speak is that you have to put in the work to make sure you have the bookings and the sales...BUT when you do it will definitely pay off. I do think you have to be organised and self-motivated...but these of course are skills you can LEARN!
I am a consultant with the Learning Ladder and I LOVE it! We sell fantastic children's books and games - a lot of which are exclusive to us and you can't get anywhere else. What I love about this PP is that not only am I bringing in extra income but I am also building a library of products that my own kids are going to be benefit from for years to come! What a bonus!
I think our comm is good PLUS we don't pay for hostess rewards - the company does. There are also lots of great incentives along the way...!
So feel free to check out our website at www.learningladder.com.au or PM me if you want any more info.

Hi Jess
Welcome to this great site. I remember feeling like you about 18 months ago wondering which Party Plan was best for me. I was working full-time in a management position, needed to supplement my income and decided to go back to Party Plan. I had done Tupperware 22 years ago, and Silver Swan Jewellery 18 years ago, had done very well out of both of them, but now times have changed.
I drew up a Wish List of the things I wanted from my 'fun' job and went about researching 5 high profile Party Plan Companies. Guess what!!!
UNDERCOVERWEAR was the only Party Plan that gave me EVERYTHING I was personally looking for. I joined UnderCoverWear at the end of January 2007, and it has been a blast!!!!! I am now a Manager of 18 girls, drive my own UnderCoverWear butterfly Manager's Car, and life is GREAT!!!!!!!!
We have brilliant joining offer at the moment. When you sign up with us, our kit is valued at $1200, of which it is discounted to only $500. You have a choice of either paying for it upfront, or from the Commission from your first 6 parties. We have a Dream Start program, which rewards you for holding your first 6 parties in your first 21 days, with sales of $2500, and a fully trained Consultant (by your Manager) and you will receive a $250 Credit back on your commission account. So effectively you will only be paying $250 for your kit, once you qualify for Dream Start. That is a massive saving of $950!!!!!!!
We have absolutely brilliant support from UnderCoverWear, and did you know that they are the only Australian Party Plan to be listed on the Australian Stock Exchange? Please go to their website www.ucw.com.au and have a read of their Annual Report, it is amazing. You can also view the current catalogue online too. When you join as a Consultant you get access to their Consultants section, which is filled with fantastic tools and tracking information that will help you boost your business.
I live in Hervey Bay Qld, so unfortunately Geelong is a bit far away from me to come and visit to show you all the benefits, but I am sure there is another UnderCoverWear Consultant only a mouse-click away, who would be more than willing to give you more personalised information.
I just love UnderCoverWear, their garment's quality is second to none, the prices are very realistic and reasonable, we have a fantastic garment exchange program, in case someone orders the wrong size, and the backing of almost 2000 Consultants and Managers Australia, New Zealand and Singapore wide.
Our Annual Conference is coming up next month in Melbourne, and it promises to be ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! Your expectation of between $250-$300+++ per week is entirely achievable depending on the amount of time you have to put into your business in the beginning. We are well rewarded for our efforts.
If you would like further information, please email me at ucwlorraine@internode.on.net, and I will send you an information pack, and then we will try and find you a local Consultant or Manager. Thanks for popping onto this site, you won't be sorry you did, the Party Planners here are all terrific and supportive.
Good luck, and I hope I hear from you soon.

WOW Jess - ask and ye shall receive!! What a great response you've had. Firstly - welocme to the forum and to the world of party plan, it's a great way for a SAHM to make some extra money, and heaps of fun too. I did the same thing when my lot were little and it was perfect.
I belong to BREEZY DESIGN - a scrapbook company. While we are a buyers club rather than a party plan, a nice business can still be made from it. We are able to sell when and where we like, no restrictions. Personaly, I don't do parties, but concentrate on classes and workshops instead.
But even if you join another company, it would be worth having a look at BD just for your personal scrapbooking. They cater for hobby scrappers, as there are no minimum orders and no monthly\quarterly sales targets to reach (so no pressure). Now that you have your first precious little bundle, it's the ideal time to start making albums. I SOOOO wish scrapbooking had been around when my boys were babies - I wouldn't have 30 years x 4 worth of photos to scrap now!!! LOL.
You can join Breezy for only $25us. We also have a monthly kit programme you can get if you want to, which is so good, you get a pack (or as many as you want) automaticaly sent each month full of great goodies and some project ideas.
Of course, BD products are archival quality, so your photos are protected for the generations to come. Please pop into my website for a looksee - just click on the link below - and if you would like to know more, please pm me. Good luck in your search - there are such a good range of companies here to choose from.

Some of the great points of becoming part of the Avon team are:
Avon originated (but not yet as Avon in 1886, when door-to-door salesman David McConnell decided he would sell perfumes, rather than books, to New York homes.
Originally named the California Perfume Company, with expansion overseas a change of name was needed, so Mr McConnell decided to call it Avon to his love of the Stratford upon Avon area in England.
Avon began operating in Australia in 1963 and into New Zealand in 1978.
So, why not join Avon and become a part of a fantastic, well respected, ethical company which is growing all the time. Be a part of this growth... and reap the rewards, both financially, and a chance to meet new people, make new friends and get the latest new quality cosmetics- many for free!
