Has anyone found themselves feeling extremely nervous about doing parties, particularly at the beginning? I am hoping the nervousness will wear off in time... the bad part is that I do tend to be highly strung anyway which makes me an attentive helpful person but can be also can be easily exhausted by trying too hard etc.
I am hoping to hear some stories of starting out like this and coming out the other side quite confident! I have just attended another party that someone else threw, and that helped me see how someone else did their party plan. I sometimes feel like a huge Chicken, and just need to push myself hard to do some more, but long weekends and other commitments aren't helping and are just making me feel more edgy by putting off my starting point! Or is party plan not for me and am I better off just quietly selling from catalogues etc??

Hi Josie,
I'm also a "nervous person" and have done about 10 parties now...and yes the nerves do wear off.
I found my nerves easing when I started doing parties where there were no family & friends, as I think you're more worried about looking like an idiot by saying something silly or wrong in front of them.
I think practise helps...practise practise practise...stand up in front of a mirror and rehearse what you're going to say...yes I know you may look silly but hey there's nobody else there so who cares!
Oh and my nerves are gonna start back up again tomorrow night as I have my first party with a new company and I'm not sure how its gonna go...but I will soldier on.
Keep up with it, I'm sure you will get over the initial hump!
Good Luck

Hi there,
I can remember many many years ago when i use to do creative memories. I was a shy little flower....the thought of speaking in front of people was enough to make me run for cover!! But I started out slow and practised on family and friends. I even went so far as to do a home video of myself presenting a home class LOL!! I tell you it was a crackup when i saw it back. If you can just picture me walking around a dining room table speaking to pretend customers and having short pauses for them to do what i had instructed them to do and then step back and say "well done" hahaha i tell ya most people would have thought i was loopy. But seeing myself how people might see me helped me changed my presentation ALOT LOL!!! Over time i gained more and more confidence running these home parties and eventually i stepped right out of my comfort zone and would run regular workshops in the hall next door. I was like a school teacher standing out in front of a class that were all there keen to learn and buy from me. I went on to do Markets and would speak to every man and his dog. I was passionate about my product and I knew it back to front and although we werent permitted to sell at markets - i got many many great leads just by chatting and being friendly to people.
Today i look back on those days and realise that CM had ALOT to do with bringing me out of my shell. I have absolutely no trouble at all now speaking in front of people and have been described by many that know me as being outgoing. A term I never thought would be used to describe me.
So in answer to your question. Yes it is perfectly natural to feel nervous when you first start out and its even natural to continue on feeling a little nervous each time. But as time goes by you will cope better and better with the nerves and as you grow and know your product back to front, you will be amazed at the person you evolve into. A much more confident outgoing person.
I will always be grateful to CM for helping me step out of my comfort zone as the skills i learnt with them have continued on way past me leaving them.
Good Luck and always believe in yourself. You CAN do it :)

Believe it or not after 10 years in Party Plan I still get nerves.
It is normal for me and the day I don't is the day I will feel something is wrong.
I find the nerves hit more for people that I know more so than those that I have picked up from expos etc.
Go figure. I am just a strange duck.

Thankyou so much Ladies! I have been selling Avon for over a year now and feel quite confident in that arena, it's probably just the idea of going to strangers homes etc. I did have one party for a friend of mine and it was soooo hard. I didn't know any games, basically didn't have a clue on what to do, and was unsure a little on how my ordering was going to happen with the company I'm with (voodoo jewellery) but now I'm sort of used to the system so at least that's familiar, and I have some great game stuff that I want to try... so it's just biting the bullet and getting someone to have another party now. Mind you I still feel a bit squeezed on the time side so that doesn't help, but I will find a way to fit in just one party per week/fortnight to get me started (I hope!) I think I should be able to handle that.
Again, thanks for your input. It's so nice to have a place to go like this board and all of you fantastic people out there are truly an inspiration!
