Discussions : Off your chest... : eBay Feedback unfair

I am venting my frustration with the lack of help in regards to an unfair negative feed back left by an eBay seller. I recently purchased and item which smelt like cigarette smoke, therefore in my feedback response I wrote Item as described but smelt like stale cigarette smoke and still gave them a postive. In return I get negative and abuse from the seller calling me a liar. I am always a prompt payer and good communicator through the eBay process. I was just being honest about the product I recieved. After some heated emails from the seller they agreed to remove the neg and I logged a dispute through the fair trade support service. They have since decided not to agree to the removal of the negative feedback.
I am peed off. So now I have to wear it, and will think twice before leaving feedback first.

Hi there,
I have had similar problems with ebay. I now never leave feedback first. One thing you can do is put a Follow Up message next to the comments they have made on your feedback page and you can put it also on their feedback page. Hope that makes sense. I agree, it's not a fair system. You try to be honest and that's the thanks you get.
Cheers, Belinda

As a buyer on ebay I will leave feedback first. I will leave feedback when I have received the item.
As a seller I will wait for the buyer to leave feedback first, as I know the buyer has received the item and is happy.
Buying or Selling I would like to think that if there was a problem it could be sorted out by messages first, before leaving feedback. I've never had a problem with any of my purchases, and only once have I had a problem with someone buying something from me - but they contacted me first and we sorted it out before leaving each other feedback.
The only problem I have with ebay is buyers who don't pay and don't respond to messages. I've had this a couple of times, and this is the only time I've ever had to leave negative feedback.

I have never left negative feedback for any of my transactions. In this instance I left the seller postive feedback and they left me negative because they weren't happy about my feedback description. Just stupid really. I love eBay too and use it all the time. I didnt want a refund I just left an accurate description of the item I had received from the seller which is what you are supposed to do.

That'd be right the week after I get a neg it is no longer allowed on eBay. Murphys Law.
Important changes to Feedback Buyers, you can no longer receive negative or neutral Feedback from sellers.

I also recently had an experience with a buyer. I had very carefully written out all the instructions on postage. This customer was from WA and I am in country NSW. they paid be e-cheque, demanding where the product was even though the cheque had not cleared. I strongly recommended that registered post be taken for WA but they chose regular. I emailed the day it was posted 2 days after cheque had cleared as I had specified I only send Wed and Sat. Anyway the person put in an application to get their money back from paypal (not ebay) at the 10th working day after I had posted. i had kept in constant contact with them throughout. Even went to post office to check possibility it had been returned. Eventually paypal paid but I didn't have to pay it. And guess what...it turned up about 3 days later, so they received a free item.
I no longer have 100% feedback- they gave me a neutral because they thought postage was too long. So I made sure that I wrote a reply comment. Not fair that instructions and information are given for items sold, and the seller gets punished because the buyer has not read them.
