My Wound wont heal!

Discussions : Off your chest... : My Wound wont heal!

Hi Firstly I would like to pre warn you that this is a totally self absorbed post about myself. And if you dont wish to read it thats cool. But i just need to vent right now as i am so frustrated and over life at present.

My son will be 20 months old tomorrow. Who would have thought 20 months on that i would still be having so much trouble with my ceasar wound!!!! I had to have an emergancy ceasar as he was breech. This in itself had complications with having both internal and external infections!! This ironcically enough had happened to me when i have given birth naturally to my daughter some 11 years prior. Anyway after having a home nurse visit me and advise me about my infections (they had only thought to take a swab on the day i was leaving even though i had told them i felt sure it had become infected) she began to take out my staples and had to dig in to one that had become inbedded in my flesh!! ARGH ok so daily trips to my local doctor for 2 weeks and saline and bettadine and i mended. Great!!!

That was up until 7 weeks ago when i split open a section of my scar whilst showering. OUCH!! Back to the doctor and more saline and bettadine and i mended.

But alas. There was a sore section still and i STUPIDLY put paw paw ointment on it thinking it was a natural and safe thing to use. WRONG. Within days my wound had got worse and it looked like i had been burnt!!! Back to the doctor. It blistered and burst!! More saline, bettadine!! Didnt heal! Then Gelonet dressing which is based in Vasoline!!! ARGH!!! Turns out i had an allergic reaction to the petroleum in the Paw paw ointment and then having the gelonet put on it made me worse cos of the petroleum again!!!! So it got more raw and sore!!! But all the while they kept saying its a fairly clean wound.....YEAH RIGHT!!! Until Thursday when a different doctor had a look at it as said it was infected!!! She took a swab I SAW STARS as she digged and poked around my raw wound. More saline and bettadine. Then yesterday it had gotten worse....now with a green discharge - obviously infected....they put EYE ointment on it!!!!! I think its what is normally used for conjunctivitis and therefore they are realising it needs to be treated for a bacterial infection!!

I am fearing this will eventually mean i am going to have to go back into hospital and have it re opened and perhaps cut or flushed out!!!! To say i am scared and miserable is an understatement. I am sick of my daily visits to the doctor. Its a clinic where i have collectively seen 4 different doctors. None of them can make my wound heal!!!

Interesting to know that i actually did a search on paw paw ointment and found another woman complaining of how she had put it on her young son and it had caused welts!!!!! She rang the Lucas company and was told yes it did have petroleum in it and it did cause an allergic reaction to some people but by law they didnt have to totally name all ingrediants?!?!?! I find this incredible!!!

OK if you have read this far. Thanks for hanging in there with me. I am sorry to vent on here about such a personal subject. I just am so fed up right now and i guess i mention this here in the vein hope that someone else may have some idea on what i should do or if nothing else to just warn people of the potential problems with paw paw ointment.

Thanks for your time

You poor thing!! I too had to have an emergency c/s with DS as I had preeclampsia and placenta praevia but thankfully mine healed fairly quickly.  I cant imagine what it must be like to still have problems with the scar, I occasionally feel an ache in mine in cold weather or if clothing has been rubbing on it but no where near what you have.

I hope they can clear it up soon, good on you for going back to different doctors though and not just leaving it with one doctor.  I'm no nurse but heck it just does not seem right.

Wishing you a very very speedy remedy and recovery !!

sometimes you just need to vent

I hope your spirit picks up soon and an appropriate treatment found without having to be hospitalised.

Sorry to hear about what has happened to you. Ive alway used my essential oils to treat wounds and scars (and stretch marks..lol) If you would like more info on oils you could possibly use please feel free to message me.

Oh you poor darling, I know how you feel, I have had 4 c-sections and only one was touchy.

Don't fret, perhaps if the doctors are not getting anywhere you could ask to see a skin specialist or go back to the hospital.

I use a herbal poultice on my wounds, which I only put on once or twice a day.  But I got this advice from a herbalist midwife friend of mine.

I hope you get better soon

I don't want to scare you but sometimes this is the fault of the hospital.

Please do go back to hospital but another one and get a fresh opinion from a completely different set of eyes.  There are so many bacteria that use a hospital setting as a breeding ground and I do know of one such case that hasn't turned out very well for the poor girl involved.

Please go to another hospital even if you have to travel - it may be worth it.

Hope things go well for you.

Hi there

Thanks for your replies.

I went again today and they say there was a very slight improvement. I couldnt see it or feel it. They are continuing on with saline then bettadine and then an eye oitment to attack the bacteria. its an ointment you would normally use for conjuncitivitis.

Yes Ladywitch I know what you are saying and I will be refusing to go back to the same hospital if it comes to that. I will see how things are tomorrow - if there is again a slight improvement then i will at least have hope they are on the right track. But if not i will ask to see a specialist.

The hospital in question released me when i had infected stiches even after i had told them i suspected infection - i ended back in emergancy that night and it was found i had two infections both internal and external. That was after having my daughter via a natural birth. And now 11 years later in the same hospital once again i tell them i think my wound is infected and i am just told to keep washing it with water. A swab wasnt taken till the day i left. Grrr. So i am zero faith in hospitals. Friends of mine have gone to private ones and gotten golden staph etc. Its a real worry.

Thanks again for your comments

Sorry to hear of the ongoing problems you are having Snazza with your wound....keep the dressings up..it will be worth it in the long run...

Unfortunately....BUGS are every where...it is unlikely that there would not be  a hospital in Australia that has not had MRSA (golden staph).... within the confines of there hospital setting....

So unfortunately going elsewhere , will give no gurantees of a positive outcome...

Wounds like yours do take a long time to heal...as they granulate up but soon..you will see some improvement hopefully...keep on top of it and l know it is hard..but try not to let it get you down..,,

Cheer up...l guess things could always be worse...

Take care....

Cheers..Kathy
