I'm thinking of doing a letterbox drop in a couple of areas to get my name and such out there and see just how successful they are but I'm not sure what to use to drop...

UCW has a letterbox flier made up that I can use I just have to print them out but should I attach something else? or just leave it at that?

Your opinions would be greatly appreciated, also whos used a letterbox drop and know that its actually worked?

Apparently the least effective marketing is via letter,Ive tried it myself with a mail out to women dominated businesses, stamps and all and received 1 booking out of 400 letters so it was expensive. Its very easy to throw it in the bin after a day at work.

My friend also left catalogues and asked them to be returnedand only got 2 back $$$$$  lost(This PP wasnt adult related)

Face to face is the best so get up some courage, say something interesting and get fit, take a catalogue to show(dont leave it)and your booking diary.Plug the + sizes too.I suggest you ask if they are interested or perhaps some-one they know might be.The worst you get is a NO and you save money on printing costs.

The local pin-up boards are great (do those little rip off tags with website and contact ph)and you only use 1 printout for X amount of people. No pressure there.

I hope this saves you some money.

Has anyone else tried this with success?

Hi Kylie

I use the letterbox flyers and have gotten the odd bite from it I have also made up my own black and white flyer to save my colour cartridge if you would like i can send it to you.  I aslo attach an old invitation to the flyer You need to do the area at least 3 times to get a result. I have found our neighbour doesnt give me a very good response tho so maybe try the next suburb

i used to do ucw and used their marketing materials as letter box drops - i never got a single party out of all the effort of doing box drops. i did get one order. not worth it. best aiming your products at relevant people (mothers and women in coffee shops , hairdressing salons etc) that worked for me.

good luck!

I have had brilliant success with letterbox drops, only you have to pick your area.

First an older area with alot of retirees usually isn't a good one unless you put in a refer a family member or friend; new estates steer clear of cause these guys are usually up to their necks in debt - no disposable income.  Try housing commision areas (these guys are usually budgeted to the cent but love taking turns among friends to get that something for FREE) or well established estates where the mortgage isn't new and/or burdensome.

Good luck.

Un-targetted marketing can be a waste of time and money. Not to mention putting off potential customers who hate 'junk mail'.

But a clever, quick cheap flyer campaign might just gain you a few new clients. Work out your costs and how much you can afford to spend vs the potential income you might generate. Work on the basis you'll need to hit the same addresses 2 or 3 times over a month to see a result. Approx 1/100 will respond.

I've tried doing neighbourhood drops with my outdated catalogues, seeing as they were no longer useful for anything else, but becuase I only do this occassionally (I try NOT to have too many old catalogues when the new one comes out!), I haven't seen any result.

Good luck with it!

I have dropped brochures around our suburb and had not ONE reply.  I wouldn't do it again.

LR have our Charity Perfumes which I have heard if you go around selling those and anyone who purchases a bottle we give them a thank you voucher which the person/homeowner can leave their name and number which you can follow up at a later date.  These are great at $6/bottle and then pick up the leads.

I haven't done it myself as I don't have the time but maybe when things get quite again, I could venture out to the streets.

I have had varied success with letterbox drops. I too make my own black and white fliers 4 to a page. I have found with regular drops to be successful (3 or more to the same area is regular) But any that I have just dropped once I get nothing. I have had many inquiries from people that have been given a flier from someone I have dropped to!! So I have found that by regularly dropping in the same area gets you remembered!! I do drop catalouges at xmas and have had GREAT success from that!!! but it takes time, and patience and really not the most cost effective or practical.
Good Luck.

I get postcards made up from vistaprint and get friends to deliver them. I have probably sent out around 150 or so and gotten 2 party bookings, one which led to another booking. So for the $8 for the postcards and the chocolates given to the delivery people (nothing like chocolate blackmail!! lol) I think it was ok, but not an outstanding sucess.

I have left the postcards in the pigeon holes at my sons daycare, 50 parents and 1 party booking, but I haven't given up on that yet.

I have left catalogues at my dentist, chiro, kindergym etc but no real sucess.

I find the best thing is to have business cards and the postcards on hand at all times. With chocolate it is a bit easier to introduce in casual conversation. The postcards I had made offer a free gift for booking a party.

Thanks guys for all your stories!

I think I might alter my plan of attack...

But Debbie if you could send me a copy of the black and white flier to have a look at that would be great! :)

thelilacangel replied:

Hi Kylie

Will send the flyer to you

I have a simple flyer through cm.. Ive not tried it!!

Kylie87 replied:

Well Kay, maybe we should do it together and that way we can hit two different areas?

hehe sounds good :D

Avon gave me a territory with 600 homes. The general rule is you need to letterbox each house 5 times. i am amazed that new customers still come out of thw woodwork. My suggestion is persist, offer a good incentive but dont spend much.

i have sent about 50- 60 books and have got about two orders so i will keep going .  i have also gone thru my local phone book and written down coffee shops and hairdresses and banks etc wherever there is women.  i will post a book to these establishments. oh and not to forget my beauticians.

Hi Bernadette,

In my opinion, I think that it would be better to pop into your local business and ask if you can leave a catalogue rather than posting it.  I know that when we get advertising material in the post at the office where I work it goes straight in the shredder.

When a rep drops by the office and asks to leave some material we usually take the time to have a bit of a chat and then they leave a catalogue which will usually get looked at.  By stopping in an introducing yourself you then have a relationship with the business owner and it becomes a warm market for you.  I think you will have more success this way  Cheers Julie

Hi girls,

Letterbox drops can be a hit or miss.  Some people have success with them some dont.  To have success consistency is the key.  ypu have to do the one area 2,3 even 4 times to get someone call and book or even show interest.  Tye upm a letter and drop it into your neighbours letterboxes letting them know what you do and then pop in and visit them within a couple of days and see if you can  book that way.  Great way to meet your neighbours.  I know i will be trying that tomorrow.  I am also trying a fundraising letter this week and will be following up on that as well.

Hope these couple of tips help, I know i will doing them and following up on them, plus going back to my guests and hostesses to get bookings in my diary.
