I have just   heard of the "Click to Donate" sites where it doesn't cost you a cent to donate something. .

This site - http://www.charityclickdonation.com/ lists many of the "Click to Donate" sites and is grouped Environmental, Animals, etc so it's easier to find charities of your choice. They also group list charities so you can donate to a number of sites with a single click.

This site - http://www.freerice.com/ tests your word knowledge in exchange for free grains of rice so your improving your vocabulary as well as helping.

The above sites are free.

If you have some cash to spend then these next 2 sites offer really unique 'gifts' such as -

a goat for a family so they can sell the milk as well as use it themselves,
or buy a herd of goats!
a pushbike to make it easier for a care worker to get from village to village,
feed 70 children a meal
vaccinate 2 children
provide drinking water
mosquito nets to stop malaria
build a classroom
teach a teacher and heaps more!!

Prices are in English pounds.

Another way to help is to open a web based email account.  Care2 is a site where you can click to donate to various causes or just use the email and they will donate on your behalf. They also have great E-Cards and very informative news sites. Have a look around at     www.care2.com

With nearly 9 million members, they must be doing something right......LOL
