Discussions : Starting your own Party Plan : Need Advice with catalogues

HI Everyone,

I have my own online business, and I have recently started doing Party Plan for friends and associates. My goal for 2008 is to develop this part of the business further because the parties I have done have gone really well.

Because I have my online business aswell as kids and all the normal life stuff, I am having trouble finiding the time to put a professional looking catalogue together.

For all of you that have your own business and get catalogues designed and printed, does anyone have any tips or business contacts that i can use to try and get this catalogue done.

Your help is appreciated!

Regards

Belinda

Vista Print is quite good for printing brochures, good quality and they've always got sales on so you can try them out and get some done for free to see if you like them.

Hi Belinda,

The catalogue issue is a tricky one - and is pretty much going to be determined by your budget. Try finding a couple of local printers and asking for quotes on what you are after. Keep in mind that they usually perfer you to order large runs of 1000+ and the pricing reflects this. We were originally quoted as much as $9.00 for a simple catalogue if we only wanted 100 or so!

Obviously we were not going to pay that! You really need to shop around for this one. Also be prepared to pay for artwork costs for the design and layout. If you can find someone that does this sort of thing from home on a good quality printer, or maybe a student that is learning the field, you may be able to get a good deal for a fraction of a professional printers cost.

Thank you Andrea and Jodie,

I do use vista print quite alot for free business cards etc for coupons for my website, but i didnt no they did brochures, I will check them out.

Thanks Andrea also for the advice - i have all of the art work etc done now because i got a few quotes and it was way out of price range so I have done the bulk of the design myself and I ended up getting a few printed off at officeworks double sided on glossy so they look very professional.

I also got them to bind them for me, I have printed off 30 so once i actually get regualr parties booked I will get a bulk lot done and buy a binding machine.

I would really love a super professional catalogue eventually but its a huge cost - i would much rather spend that type of money on stock not paper

Thanks for your help ladies!!

Oh how I dream of having gorgeous catalogues one day!!!!  I just paid $350 for 50 catalogues in BRisbane and was not happy with quality of paper.  But paid it because it is rare to get small print jobs done professionally.  So next time I will go to Office works to get printed on glossy paper.  Thanks for the tip.

We should all celebrate come the day we can afford to have glossy gorgeous catalogues.............just like the big companies!! ha ha ha

it really comes down to how many you want...

I recently had a quote for $2000 for 2500 catalogues, which i thought was pretty good - consultants would then pay under $1 per catalogue. BUT you need to know that you will use that many catalogues too..... no point getting that many if you might only use 50.

I'm interested in anyone elses hints or tips too - i'm currently redesigning our catalogue myself using Corel.
