Discussions : General discussion : To Ebay/Auction or Not??

I know there a few ladies on here that sell goods on ebay and other aution sites and was wondering if they recommend it or not? This is a general question not related to products they sell through their party plan but basic selling in general. Do you cover you costs? How much do you sell weekly, do you sell second hand goods or new goods?? Basically is it worth your time in doing so?

Hi Janine
I haven't sold anything myself on ebay although have enlisted the help of friends to do it for me. All who do have told me that it is time consuming particularly if you put photos with each item however most swear by it as a viable way of selling their pre-loved items.

Yes have to agree great way to rid your house of those unwanted items...but it can become quite time consuming,...
We are about to move and l am ready to spend a day or 2 listing items....lets see how it goes.
If sell great if not then off to the red cross with them.....
But there are things like a pool, overlocker etc..that l just don't use anymore so hopefully they will fetch a ok price....l have sold for myself and others and dont find it too much of a hassle..
once you know what you are doing it gets quicker to list your item...
BUT l never use ebay to sell my PP..(there are rules and regs to abide by)..plus l dont want to cheapen my product.

There is another site, strictly Australian only. Oztion, which works on the same principle as ebay but with lesser fees. You may like to look at this option. It is not as well known as ebay and deals with Australia only so you may not have such a large audience. Benefit, you don't pay the same listing fees.

Hi Janine
I have a Ebay Store and I could not recommend it enough. I have more sales going through my Ebay store than my website.
I have a mixture of stock sent out to auction and the rest as store inventory. Auction is the way to go if you have a unique or popular item as this attracts many buyers and quite often your item will go for more than your asking price. You also have the option to send out second chance offers to non winning bidders so you can often sell more than one item off the auction.
Store inventory offers buyers to buy your item at a fixed price but these items are not as easy to find in the search listings and do attract a higher fee on sale although they are cheaper to list.
I do recommend Ebay - It has been a great addition to my business
For anybody interested you can check out my store at the below link.

Hi All,
I like to sell second hand bits and pieces occasionally. It is a great easy way to off load things you no longer need and make a bit of spare cash for your efforts. One thing I would suggest if you do start selling is to have very clear photos and accurate descriptions of your goods. Always be polite to your customers and communicate via ebay to inform them of how the transaction is going at each stage ie: Hi Sir Thanks for buying from my listing just letting you know that payment for your purchase has cleared in my account and I will post your parcel this afternoon. Regards Me (I believe this is important). Quite often I find sellers lack communication skills. Other wise my buying and selling experiences have been good with eBay
I have had a browse through Melisa's eBay store and it is lovely. Loads of great Asian home wares which I love. Good Luck Melisa I hope business is booming for you.

Thanks everyone for you feedback on auction sites. I am still undecided but it is great to hear from those who do use such site to sell.
