Brainstorming (not PP related) - kids books

Discussions : General discussion : Brainstorming (not PP related) - kids books

Hi Ladies,

Thought I might post this to you all as a LOT of you are mothers and know what children like...

I'm working on a series of children books called "Unsung Heroes" and need some brainstorming for character ideas... the target age is yet to be determined (have been tossing up 8-10yo or young teens as target audiences... not sure who'd it suit best yet)

The first book in the series is called "Hail to the Bus Driver" (don't have to guess who it's about here! lol)... not sure whether I want to do it in first person or not yet... or whether I want the Point of View to come from the Bus Driver - or someone whose life is touched by the Bus Driver...

Anyway... long story short... I'm looking for ideas on other "unsung heroes" characters, the events that happen in their lives to show their heroics, etc etc - basically - anything that can be used or played with to create characters with substance and keep young children interested in the book...

Your responses don't have to be detailed... just throw ideas in (however wierd they may sound) - I just need something that will help get my creative juices flowing, and get me started on creating this series of books... ANY suggestions, ideas, feedback etc will be accepted with GREAT appreciation!!!!

Thank you

Well there is the obvious: doctors, nurses, firemen, policemen, ambos etc...

BUT:

- SES

- Meals on Wheels/Volunteers

- Scientists

- Carers

- Salvos etc

- RFDS/RSPCA

- And my DH Kevin said when I asked him what else to add to the list.......

life guards

nurses (they always get forgotten)

teachers (good ones)

ambos

fire fighters

Volunteers in general

hmm that's all I can think of for now!

Hi Ren,

I noticed that nurses have already been suggested - but how about a midwife specifically. Perhaps the midwife in the story helps to deliver someones little baby brother or sister.

Just a thought.

Cheers, Andrea.

WOW!! I can't believe how fantastic these ideas are!! I knew there were quite a lot of "unsung heroes" out there... but OMG!!! There's quite a few that've been mentioned that I hadn't even thought of!!

Hmmm... I'm thinking this might now be a series of "short stories"... just so I can get everyone in them!! hehehehe

Thanks heaps (keep the ideas flowing... this is brilliant!!) - I'm loving these posts & the pm's!! Thanks :)

What about the post man? You could incorporate some sort of neighbourhood watch thing...

Or the good ol milk man... lol

Rather than just a firefighter, you could use a 'cfs' member.

Pilots

Train driver

Captain of a ship or a smaller ferry getting cars from one side of a river to the other.
