MSN warning

My hubby and i have been sent links via friends MSN's lately. If you get a link sent to you (with no other message) from anyone on your contact list.. resist the temptation to open/click on them. It is a link to a site with "free stuff for you" but as soon as you get a message containing this link the person who sent it to you will sign off. Their MSN will send you think link every time they sign on.

If you have received this link you will find that your MSN will claim that it has signed out as it has been signed in on another computer. If this is happening to you... PLEASE... change you MSN password. There will be nothing on your actual computer.. but your password and MSN ID is now being signed on from another computer and sending this link out to everyone on your list. The way to stop it is to change your password.

I have tried to find info about this on the internet but can't find anything talking about it. We got sent the link the first time by a computer friend in the UK. He is a computer technician, teaching in a school over there, anyone can be caught out by it. I don't know if it is accessing emails or anything else, but, it will keep signing your MSN on from this other location till you change your password. Annoying even if it isn't "dangerous"

I spent whole night looking for a way to fix that problem. Thank you so much. I hope everyone does this so as we can get rid of this problem.

A friend of mine sent me this link the other day.  I started having problems with msn signing me out, so I went and changed my password yesterday or Monday, and it is still happening.  The link (that you mentioned above, free stuff for you) that I was sent, took me to a site called blockdelete.com and says that by signing in, I could find out who has blocked me on my msn contacts.  It turns out that 11 msn contacts (two are the same person with different e-mail addy's) have me blocked.  Three of them are people from Party Plans who I considered to be very nice people, so have no idea why "friends" (or at the least friendly aquaintances) would block me!

.

I was almost thinking of sending friends the link, or even posting the link here, but after seeing that yourself and others (and not just me) are experiencing the same msn problem, I will not be endorsing the blockdelete site, no matter how many "friends" have blocked me!

Hi there

I also received this link. Mine came from Lani saying she was not in my contact list where she previously had been. I stupidly clicked on it and found a couple of people had blocked me too or perhaps deleted me from their contact list. Then this message was sent to several people in my contact list and one by one they started to pop up and ask what i was sending to them - when i hadnt actually sent it myself at all. So i ran a virus scan on my computer - nothing was detected. I then logged totally out of msn and came back in - since then i havent had any problems except i still receive the odd one or two messages from people with that same link except i dont click on it i just shut the window immediately. However one of my friends is still battling with fixing it. She says she is logged on but looks like she is offline - cant see my photo and sees me as shazz and not snazza. If anyone has any suggestions how to fix this i would appreciate it as its driving her nuts. She has run virus scans and logged out and back twice. She is ready to throw msn in the bin.

Also i hate to appear dumb - ok a blonde moment - but how does one change their password on msn??

Thanks all and have a wonderful day

Hi Me again

Just wondering how people are travelling with this MSN problem - just wondering if people have successfully got it working yet? as i cant seem to see all the familiar names online that are usually there during the day.

Hey Snazza!

I had a strange link come through from you on MSN this morning but I just ignored it. I just checked and I now have you in my contact list as 'shazz' not 'snazza'.

Not sure what's happening with it??

CKCath replied:

To change your password on MSN the easiest option is to

  • Sign out
  • Look for the option at the bottom of the MSN "front" screen that says "I forgot my password"
  • Click that link and follow the prompts there.

Good luck, hope that fixes your problems as easily as it fixed ours.

(Hubby had a wonderful time deleting all the people who had him blocked, he was looking very sheepish after he realised he had been conned though LOL)

Snazza replied:

Thanks Cath and sorry belinda!! DOH!!!! Yes I am not sure why but Kermie had the same problem with me. My name had changed to Shazz and not Snazza....hmmm. Well I worked out how to change my password so i did that and i uninstalled and reinstalled - rebooted - ran virus scanning and moon walked backwards whilst chomping on a unicorn horn. So Hopefully that will get rid of the stupid thing.....having said this however kermie was having trouble adding me again and i wasnt able to see her online and i still got a few of those weirdo messages popping up from people but i just shut them down and they go away. So hmm all i can say to the person that invented this brilliant programe (tongue in cheek) Get a life!!! Grumble...

SaucyHeaven replied:

I am so sorry the link got sent to you Sharyn, I didnt know what was going on myself.  When I originally got this link from a friend on my messenger list, I thought cool, bet I wont have any friends who have blocked me, but I was wrong!  I was surprised to see your name there saying you had blocked me, it also said that Kath (SF) had blocked me too!  Also, one of my supposed best "online" friends had also blocked me too!

.

I e-mailed the lady who sent it to me to warn her about what it does, and told her to change her password.  By the way, to change your hotmail password, you go to options (top right corner of the page when you are looking at your inbox) and then account (I think) and you will find it.

To cut a long story short, the lady is sending me a link that takes me to the same site " blockdelete " and I dont know what else to do.  I dont want to have to block her because she is accidently sending me the link everytime she signs in or out.  I have told her twice now about the links, and what they are doing to people in everyones contacts list.  I have now changed password again, so I am going to tell her once more and hope she changes her password so that I am not getting these links and hope no one else on my list get them either!

Snazza replied:

Hey Lani, Yes I got a surprise too to see Lauren (Camsmum) and Leigh had blocked me or perhaps deleted me thinking i was boring haha or perhaps it is the progame that just does it cos i dont think i ever blocked you. Anyway i am happy to add you again i just wont click on any weirdo links. Hahah. I havent had a problem since i changed my password and uninstalled and reinstalled and ran a scanner. I have still got a few people popping up though with that click but i just close the window down straight away. And I havent had any more problems. People were also saying they were seeing me as shazz and not snazza. But Belinda confirmed this morning i am back to being Snazza to her. So phew!!!! haha what a mastermind to come up with such a silly programe.

Regarding the deletion/blocking of contacts -

I have been named as someone who blocked someone on my username list on MSN (surely the post could have been done without using names but oh well).  I can assure you I haven't deliberately blocked anyone from this site - yes I went through my list some months ago and *deleted* people who I hadn't heard from in ages and might have accidently blocked them as well.  It was only a matter of housecleaning and definitely not meant to cause offence.  I am more than happy to add or re-add ANYONE from this site who wants to chat to me, I have not *blocked* anyone on purpose.  My only explanation is that perhaps I have accidently omitted to unclick or click a box in the deletion process.

As for the link everyone is talking about, I got it through an email from someone, but not wanting to have an external program or computer go through my address book I deleted it - perhaps checking who has deleted you is how it spreads? I don't know much about it, just a thought.

Hope everyone is having a spectacular day.

CKCath replied:

I am not sure you should beleive that the people listed as having blocked you actually did it. It may all be part of the game that is being played with this link. Just as an example, according to that list i had Blocked my husband from my MSN! Guess what I hadn't.

As far as I can see it only "infects" your MSN if you open/click on the link.

Snazza replied:

Ahh no biggie intended there lauren by mentioning your name. I thought it was the program more than anything that did it. As I cant recall ever blocking Lani. I think whoever created this programe has succeeded in getting tongues wagging haha. Honestly i just dont take anything too seriously anymore. And fortunately since changing my password and uninstalling and reinstalling i dont have a problem with it at all. But i do think a few people out there may need to do the same as i  get the odd msg from people with that link from time to time.

Snazza

PS I only PM about something if i think it is something that should be kept from public view, but in this case i dont see the need JMO

partyplans replied:

LOL!! Ladies this is a phishing scam!

It is like the the ones that say sign into your bank account, but you are just signing into a scam site.

Once they have your username and password, they can message all your contact list and tell them to get out this cool site. Then they try it (after all the message came from a friend) and the scam spreads.

To make it look legit, once they sign into your account, they just randomly select some contacts and say they blocked you.

If they wanted to, they could actually change your password.. then you would be really stuffed!

MSN has blocked the url from even being entered in now so it should not trick anyone else.

SaucyHeaven replied:

The messenger friend of mine who originally sent the first link to me, said she changed her password, but has still managed to send another two links that go to the blockdelete site.  The first link she sent, got sent whenever she signed in, now it is happening whenever she signs out.

.

Maybe msn has only blocked the first link to the site, but not the rest, otherwise the link wouldnt still be getting sent to people.
