Hubby and I treated ourselves to a very expensive anniversary present last night (our wedding anniversary was July) we went to see Elton John. I have loved his songs since I was 11 and ohhh gosh was I looking forward to singing along and having a good time. He has just turned 60 what a milestone for him. He started off with Candle in the wind which was great, then did a song about Aids and a few more slow songs which some I knew some I didn't, but he kept that slow pace. When you pay $165.00 a ticket one does expect to be singing along and dancing in ones seat. The whole of Acer Areana sat there like we were at an Opera. I thought he would start slow then really get into it towards the end, but that didn't happen it was slow the whole way through. The lady next to me and the guy in front of me fell ASLEEP!!! When we arrived all the merchandise was on display and I did think I would at least buy a program ($35) which in the end I didn't. As usual everything was so over priced. The only highlight of the evening was being interviewed by Vega radio station at the end of the night. And they got my full disappointed story.
Have you been to something and you were disappointed??

Thats so disappointing Shaz!
My inlaws are big fans and have his music dvd's playing quite often and he can really get into some of his concerts and they look fabulous, alot of fun! shame it was so slow...
I've only ever been to a silverchair concert (bit different to elton john) it was at vodafone arena and everyone had to remain in seats throughout the whole thing...bit different to the usualy silverchair concert.. it was a few years ago.. still an enjoyable night though but you couldnt really get into it..
Hope you and hubby still got to enjoy the night together though :)

Ohhhh Shaz I feel your pain!!! Hubby & I went to see Elton when he was here in Brissy. He played a majority of the slow stuff (can't really remember anything fast)... there was some "gimmick" he did with the audience (you know the whole "shoot your fingers at the crowd - guns style, whenever we clapped - it was funny the first maybe 3 times... but he kept doing that!)
Worst bit though is that he was DRUNK!! He actually had to run off the stage to be sick at one point!!!! He'd been to the cricket earlier that day apparantly (something he loves) - the performance was slow, and I can't say that he really revved up the crowd at all! Oh... did he have that wall of tv's up?? There was some computer generated stuff that kept playing in the background (it actually distracted from him - you found yourself focusing on that, rather than Elton - and it was stuff that really didn't make a lot of sense to the songs he was playing... oh well... or maybe I just didn't get it).
We also had tickets to Billy Joel's concert (who I'm a bigger fan of) - but I couldn't go coz I was sick - I sooooooo wish it had of been Elton's concert I missed, coz I heard that Billy's was "fantastic" - he had a rotating stage with the piano on it, so that EVERYONE could see him... and he played a whole mixture of his songs... oh well there's always next time for Billy. I'm thru with Elton!
As you say, it's all soooo overpriced! I wouldn't mind so much if the performance was worth it - but at $165 I could have spent that in a Day Spa instead and come out with a SMILE on my face!!!! lol

Renking I went to a Billy Joel concert back in '92 and it was fantastic you could dance where you were standing and it played all the old favourites as well as his then new songs (we didnt start the fire, was just out) and I too would of loved to of seen his concert. Rod Stewart is coming in Feb My birthday is in May so maybe we can go to that.
candlelover replied:
Oh Shaz, that is so disappointing.
I also went to the Billy Joel concert back in "92 when he had just released we didn't start the fire and it was fantastic. I loooooove Billy Joel. I also went to the Bryan Adams concert which was fantastic as well. Both were so full of energy and the whole of Rod laver Arena was "jumping".

Imade a last decision to go to see Elton but didnt end up going as we couldnt get tickets. From the sounds of it i am better off i didnt go.
It's bad when you really like an artist and they disappoint you. I hada disappointment a few years back when i went to see the Vengaboys. I was a big fan but after the concert never bothered with them again. They kept singing the same songs over and everything was prerecorded.
Ladywytch replied:
Right from the start - I will tell you I have never been an Elton fan but come on guys give the guy a break.
How old is he?????
You are not paying to see a 20 year old young bloke with a six pack you are paying for an old man with a keg - he can't get around like he used to - none of us can.
At least he made the effort to come on tour and toured some areas that most 'big' names don't. He could have stayed tucked up in bed in London with his toy boy and lived off the royalties for the rest of his life.
Just my 2 cents.

I don't think it was that ....hubby came home Tues and said a guy from work went to the winery(in Gosford) last sat and saw him there and he DID sing all the up beat songs (sob) and it was a great concert. So I think he was still grieving on the Wed when we saw him.....I want to see Rod Stewart next.....Hubby wants to see Andre Reiu Im not so fussed on him but hubby and his mum are...and my hubby is only 30 ,......tickets are in the hundreds....so I'm sure "mummy" will pay for them just so they can go together.....he actually came to a shopping center a few months back and hubby and his mum went......he only played 2 things but it was free (they waited for 3 hours) and they loved it.
renking replied:
As for the concert I saw... maybe it would have been better if he wasn't "drunk"
and hey... I don't think age really plays a part in this... Elton's 60; Billy's 58... Billy's not much younger than Elton, and his shows are always dynamic... (and my pop's in his 90's, still works really hard - he retired a few years back for a total of ONE week - couldn't handle it, so he was back at it again... and believe me, pop loves his beer and dancing too! Proof that age doesn't have to slow you down.)
