Do you play games?

Discussions : Questions and answers : Do you play games?

Hi everyone,

Probably sounds like a strange question - but until now I really havent done a lot of parties (I think the last actual party I ran was nearly 10 years ago!!) - I mainly sell one on one and via catalogues etc - but am starting to get a few party bookings as I have finally realised this is the most efficient way to go!

Anyway - my question is - does every play games at their parties? If yes - how do they help?  If no - your opionion around that would be great too.

I personally am not a big game person - happy to do a couple of ice breakers - but just wanted to get everyones opionions?

Thanks

I am a games person, I normally play an icebreaker like the left right game etc.  Then while I am doing my speil I play  a catouloge/ handbag scavenger hunt just to make sure they listen and so it isnt boring.  then depending on tiime i may play a recruiting game or the wish list game !!

No. I don't play games. I hate playing games when I am at a partyplan party so I refuse to torture other people!

I sell chocolate so really, no one wants to play games they want to get stuck into sampling the chocolate.

I have told people at the start of the party I don't play games and they are quite relieved a lot of the time.  Or just say "bring on the chocolate!" haha

Hi Mel,

No game playing for me either......there does not seem to be the need, as the jewellery sells itself....and l like Michelle hate going to PP parties and getting forced into participating in games!!!

FAC presentation is quick 4-5 mins...shopping...chat....home.....

The Hostess and customers l deal with appear to be very happy with this approach..many come straight from work so are pretty tired already..they just want to relax, shop and go home.
Of course every PP Co is different..but this is my approach.
Cheers...........

I don't do party games with Kaszazz (formerly Crafty Kids) as we make up two examples (eg cards or a scrapbook page) and then each guest gets to make one project to take home with them. Our guests just want to get stuck into playing with the products... rather than playing games.

Mind you this works well for me as I am not a big game fan anyway.

I have to agree - I hate playing games myself, so I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it - it just wouldn't feel natural for me and I think people would probably pick up on that. I don't think it has a detrimental effect - in fact I think often people are relieved and happy just to have a chat, look at the books and get on with it.  At one party everyone came half an hour late and the hostess thought that was so they would miss any games!!! he he

Thanks everyone for your replies! Seems the way to go is what feels right to you, so will leave out the games on Friday and see how I go!

Hi,

Well looks like I am in the minority in this thread - but I LOVE games!

I have loved pp games since I was in primary school and tagged along with my mum when she was invited to Tupperware parties way back when...

I only do 2, maybe 3 games so people don't get bored and it doesn't take up too much time. I always make sure I ask my hostess first if she wants games and if the answer is no, then that is OK 'cos it's her party so her choice.

Now I know it is usual to hear a couple of groans from the crowd when you annouce that "we are going to play a game" I just look up and go OH, really, are you sure you don't want to- the prizes are chocolate.....

I simply buy a pkt of Freddos and as the winning answers get yelled at me , I throw the winners a freddo or two.

Chocolate makes people happy. Me included. It also gets people jokingly competitive as they want more chocolate. This gets them chatty and smiling and makes the demo easier and more casual.

I ask my guests if they have heard of "baby brain" - you know that phenomenon when you are pregnant or breastfeeding and start putting the milk in the cupboard and the teabags in the fridge??

Well, I say - the games are to get those brains working again. It ties in beautifully with my pp and even the grandmas have all enjoyed the games so far.

It's great if you can find a game that relates to your particular pp. I created my own. We play Mummy Bingo and Kids Show Quiz. Heaps of fun.

Cheers, Andrea.

Hi everyone.... I HAVE to play games at all my parties!    It's part of my personality - I love to give away prizes and my guests know that I do games and always ask for them.   I have tried a couple of times without the games but I dont feel comfortable not doing them - haha.  My problem is I have to think of different games for all my groupies.  I have even had lots of presentations and we just play games - only for the groupies of course!   I think if you are comfortable with games go with it, but if it makes you feel uncomfortable the guests will see that you are not at ease and it may affect your sales etc.   Games break the ice, the guests have lots of fun and most importantly want to rebook with you!

Good luck with it all ....

Maz

I used to play one or two games per party, dependent on type of people present and whether they were interested in playing them aswell.

I found that the best one was the bingo game. Tell everyone to choose 9 letters from the alphabet and put all the prizes in the middle. When they cross off a letter they can put a prize in front of their feet. When all the prizes from the middle are gone, people that cross of letters can steal the prizes from the other guests. When the first person is finished crossing all their letters out, everyone gets to keep what is in front on their feet.

hope that all makes sense! everyone seems to have a lot of fun with that one.

I play games at my parties esp the one where when you hold the products up the gustes have to find the poduct in the cat.  The first one to find it gets a ticket into a raffle.  I find this helps with the interaction and guests aren't sitting there like they're getting a lecture.

At first a was a bit unsure about games but there was one party when I didn't play games because I thought they wouldn't be into it and I got asked why we didn't play any.  So I just play them and if someone doesn't want to participate I'm not worried.  Tupperware prizes are pretty good so people want to play

I like to play a game as an icebreaker. It losens people up and removes any tension at the beginning.Did you play one at your party?

PatriciaStorie replied:

I play a game at my parties that acts like a ice breaker and as a way of getting to know the guests and hostess. I love to spoil my hostess and her guests, and the game i play seems to go really well with the groups and they have a lot of fun with it. I guess it depends on the pp consultant and also on the group you are with as to weather you choose this option or not. Personally, i love to play games.  im just a big kid at heart i surpose.

I sometimes play game depending on the group of ladies if its a new group of ladies I dont know then I do, but my regulars I usually set up and they go for it

Angel replied:

I agree with Michelle - I hate having to play games at a party, so I won't do them at my parties. In fact, I don't do parties at all - I hold classes instead (I'm with a scrapbook company). I find people really like making something creative to take home.

But I say "to each his own" - there are lots of people who enjoy playing games, so they certainly have their place in party plan. I think it can also depend on the consultant - whether they are good at 'doing' the games. Some can work the games well, others not so well.
