These days we are all working too much and spending too much too.
For some great ways to save money check out the Simple Savings web site www.simplesavings.com.au for lots of ideas on how to make our hard earned $ go further. You do have to be a member to have full access to the site but there is a lot of free information on there too. You can join the mailing list to receive the newsletter which has quite a bit of useful information and is a worth while read. If any one has there own tips on saving on the household budget you could share them here.

Thanks for that!
Its a bit ironic though, that you have to pay to be a member on a site dedicated to saving money!!!

I always thought that too Beedelighted! If everyone just shares 3 tips think of all the collective money we would save!! Here are my three!
1. Buy generic disinfectant and pour a small amount into a spray bottle (I am reusing the bottle my window cleaner came in) and water down (if necessary) to the concentration you would use for benches, playmates, toys etc. That way you've got the concentrate for mopping etc and the spray and wipe for the cost of one.
2. Try bartering - if you are a tax agent and your friend is a solicitor, try swapping the cost of doing a Will with the cost of doing taxes. If you can cut hair and your friend has fresh herbs, etc etc.
3. Don't be afraid of op shops. People donate unwanted (but brand new) gifts, clothing that doesn't fit (often with tags), and other items which are in near-new or new condition. Personally I have donated heaps of NEW stuff which had been sitting around, usually clothing I bought which was too small or didn't look as good as I had hoped. Shopping carefully can reap great rewards.

Not so much a saving money tip but I have been unpacking boxes all morning as my Castle hamper arrived. My pantry is too small and I will only have to buy meat for the next couple of months. I paid $15 a week for 52 weeks and didn't miss the $15 at all. I now have the extra spending money I need to buy chrissie pressies.
I also have a lot of gifts coming in the next week as I ordered some chrissie presents through Chrisco as well. Got a lot of my chrissie present shopping done and for only $12.50 a week.
I am also the QUEEN of lay-by. I go to the sales in July where they have no deposit lay-by till Xmas Eve. I go in the week before Xmas and pay the last $5 or so and most of my shopping is done. Also saves on the mad Xmas rush trying to find that last minute gift.

This isnt much of a money saver but it does stop me buying grocery's that I dont need. before I go shopping I make up a weekly dinner menu's and write down all the ingredients the I havent already got so then I know what I will need to buy. (and it also saves time trying to think of something to cook for dinner and it stops my partner saying wats 4 dinner)

The simple savings website it fantastic. I have been a member for 2 years now and have never paid for the membership. I am a member until the end of 2009. I just submit ideas for saving money and during each month they select the best idea and award you with a free 1 year membership. Sometimes they will give out 2 or 3 memberships per month. I would fully recommend this website for anyone. There are excellent money saving tips and great idea for making your own chrissy, birthday, easter and other holiday gifts. Well worth it!
Just another quick thing, if you save money in your first month that you would never have saved before, the membership is definately worth it.
