What is everyone doing for Christmas?

Discussions : General discussion : What is everyone doing for Christmas?

Will it be a quiet one or a family filled frenzy?

I have to admit that with 4 teens it is ALWAYS a frenzy at our place and Christmas is no exception.

We do things a little differently than most as we have a celebration that spans from the 22nd Summer Soltice until the 26th.  Still do the Christmas day thing, as my mum is chronically Catholic and Fraser's parents are Christian too, so we do it out of respect for them but incorporate our own beliefs into the other days.  It is always fun though as we blend faiths.  New Year is always very quite as our New Year is Samhain, the end of April.

How do you celebrate?

This will be our fourth Christmas together as a couple, so still finding "our" traditions and celebrations.  Mostly though, its just like how I used to have Christmas as his family never made a huge deal about it.

When I lived at home, and when we celebrate at my parents' house, we go to a catholic service either the night before or Christmas morning, and breakfast is always ham, eggs and juice.  Unwrapping gifts always takes several hours, as we unwrap one at a time to truly appreciate the thought put into each gift, and so the recipient and giver can both share in the excitement - we have never ever had a Christmas where gifts were opened quickly and in less than 2 hours LOL.

By the time breakfast is over its almost time to start preparing lunch which is always a smorgasbord of sorts, with lots of baking, goodies, barbecued meats, cold salads and seafood for the boys.  The punch flows freely and everyone chatters to drown out Mum's favourite Christmas CDs.

After lunch most of the adults have a nap (along with any cranky kids!) and those that don't usually just spend the afternoon playing cricket or table tennis or whatever.  Dinner is usually non existent - mainly leftovers.

We put the decorations up on the first weekend in December, and remove them on the 12th day of Christmas ie 6 January.

This year will be the first one that Cam will be really aware of what's going on, although next year he will probably be in full on Christmas mode - this year he'll just be delighted with the wrapping paper and gifts.  I'm busy making up his santa stocking and organising our contributions to Christmas lunch.

Can't wait to hear what everyone else gets up to!

I'm really looking forward to Christmas, my 2 year old will just absolutely love it, opening all her pressies and my 1 year old will understand a lot more than last year when he was only a couple of months old, but yes he'll probably just love the wrapping this year too!!!  I'm hoping to have Christmas at home this year, as the kids are getting a swing set and trampoline so don't really want to take them away from it on Christmas Day but we will all have a fantastic time with all our families I'm sure!!!

We will be having xmas at home this year for the first time ever as a family. We use to go to the country to my mums. As she passed away last year, we still gathered as a family to be together for our 1st xmas without her. This year we plan on staying home with our 2 boys and starting our own Christmas traditions. I cant wait. We will have a new addition to the family as my sister-in-law will be having a baby on the 26th of this month. A little girl. it will be her 1st Christmas. So all ver exciting this year.
