I am trying to keep my accounts up to date manually and it is doing my head in! lol

What system do you use? Which is best for party plans? I am currently downloading a free trial of quicken home and business 2008.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I use quicken - the basic home & business one will be ok but the dearer versions have things like inventory control.

I use Myob and find that to be ok - I also have had experience with Quicken and find both programs to have their pluses and minuses :)

Good Luck with your search on finding the right program that suits you!

I have used both MYOB and Quickbooks and as Bec says both have their good and bad points.

If you have an accountant though, I suggest you ask them which they would prefer.  There is nothing like rocking up to your accountant with perfect MYOB generated books and they prefer Quickbooks.  Been there done that.  Although the girl I am with now does both and many do but there are a few out there that do operate on only one system.  Check with them before you go to the expense of a program.

Also there are trial versions on the webpages for both products.  You can enter your details and have a play with both and then when you buy the full product you do not have to re-enter the data.  At least then you will know which one you are more comfortable with and which individual product suits your needs. They both also have a brief questionare so you know which product within their range suits your needs ie. I needed one that did the basic books + GST and as I have staff had to have something that covered payroll.

Good luck with your search.

Thanks for your replies.
I have downloaded a trial and filled out the questionairre bit but haven't had time to put all my info in yet.. I have 6 months worth to do!

I also do need to find an accountant, do most accountants understand the in's and out's of PP or would I need to track down someone with knowledge?
