It is happening all the time now.......
I go int the petrol station to pay JUST FOR PETROL, and they say
WOULD LIKE 2 CHOCOLATE BARS FOR $4 or something like that.
The first time I said.. " only if they are free"
The 2nd time I was having a horrible day and i was not myself.
I said irritably. " if i wanted one I would have got one"
Then yestereday I bought a coffee and a chocolate dougnut and then she says to my face' If i want the chocolate bars on special"
I said again " a bit rudely, " i have a chocolate dougnut, NO i do not want a chocolate bar."
I just want to go in and pay for my petrol in peace and not have to answer questions on if i want a chocolate bar or not............
There, I feel better.

"Would you like fries with that ?"
I know its terribly annoying, what is more annoying is the fact (as an assistant) you HAVE to say those stupid things. In my previous life I was an attendant - a good assistant will only say the right things because of the $100 mystery shopper fee that you may be lurking as. (We were NEVER allowed to say goodbye, we ALWAYS had to say SEE YOU NEXT TIME!!)
Next time you should have a cattie ready and ask them would they like one of your catties as obviously these people are well trained and looking for the extra $$$. Fight fire with fire !!

Oh My what a topic.............
Yes l am sure we can make these decisions our self...Yes if l wanted a choc bar l would have grabbed one, if l wanted a sundae l would have ordered one...l can think for myself...talk about upselling.,.............(gee wonder what commission they get out of that...lol...00000)
I do understand as sales assistants they are instructed to do this but REALLY.....Oh my!!!!!!

OH Marina I know EXACTLY what you are meaning here as it drives me bananas. I even changed servos because of it. I use to go in regularly and each time the guy would say would you like chocolate bars etc and each time i would say No and look at him as if to say Why are you asking me this? But each time he said the same line. (I know Julie they have to do it but BOY is it annoying) So to fix this problem i switched servos. I now go to a Quix and pay at the pump. Dont even need to go in the store. Its sheer bliss :)
Incidently Julie along the Mcdonalds line - the other day while my neice took my daughter for maccas in Bendigo she was asked if she would like the healthier choice and my neice said nah if i wanted a healthier choice i wouldnt be at mcdonalds hahahaha.

Lol snazza.
thank goodness ive never have this problem... so far from what ive seen sydney is good in this area, BUT maybe thats cuz they charge us a tonne more for our petrol they dont bother with upselling anything else!!! lol i'd move to QLD just for the cheaper petrol if i could......

I would just like to say "We are made to say it and can be counciled if we don't". I don't as I don't care because I have been manager, but if by chance the person you are serving is one of the many mystery shoppers out there, there is a chance that your time could be up.
I am not making excuses for it, because even I find it annoying, but next time just think if they don't ask it could be there job lost!!!!!!!

I agree it can be very annoying, but it is part of the training and sales pitch.
In reality is it any different to us asking every customer if they woudl like to book a party?
HandsOn replied:
well if you look at it that way... perhaps its just like us playing 100 No's???
If they ask, sure they will get lots of nos but i'm sure they get a few yes responses too! lol
Ladywytch replied:
I have to admit it is annoying but I recently did a '[ExMember148]" and said to one of these girls only if you book an UCW party with me on the (can't remember the date) and bugger me she did. So I use that one every time now - have gotten 3 booking out of it so swing it around on them.
