Hi All:

My son is going to be 6 in January and  I know its a bit early to try and get some ideas lol but I will have to put the invitations to his friends out early cause they are his school friends yeeha (How scarey).

Anyway what I would like is some ideas on 6 year old birthdays I was going to have it at Mc Donalds but have now decided to have it at home. Has anyone got some ideas for me on party food I know your usual party pies, little boys, sausage rolls, etc.  But can anyone give me some other ideas and also party games lol.

Any thing would be very appreciated.

Thankyou so much

Kool Jae thanks for that I was thinking a dress up party.  I would just like to do something different for him lol, yeah dress up does sound cool hey I am sure he will like that.

Jae replied:

yeah, like super heroes or something.. !! Each can have a batman, superman, spiderman etc

Maybe make the cake in to the theme, and have balloons matching with printed plates & cups etc.

pleanne replied:

Hi Leanne,

Remember if you are inviting girls, yes they love the girls at that age, you need a mixed theme if you are having batman or spiderman. My Daughter-in-law had a fairy's and pirates party. So the kids could have a choice. Don't make it too structured as kids that age like to just play but need a few things like pass the parcel to get the shy ones involved.

Don't worry about too many sweets as they go home after the party and you dont need to worry about it. Hey i'm a grandmother so what do i care about hyped up kids, i always send them home.... lol

Have fun and dont stress cause its only one day.. and there are lots more to come

Good luck

Hi Leanne,

My 5yr wanted a fancy homemade birthday cake but we ended having an icecream cake. It was a huge hit and only cost me no more than $6.00. All you need is a cheep 2litre icecream tub, empty it out by running warm water on the container. Tip it onto a board or tray. Pop it back into the freezer and let set over night. Whip and colour cream and then pipe with around the edges of the icecream. Add a decoration on top, pipe some more cream and had smarties etc.. They look great and is so cheap. By the time the kids had party food they did not want cake but as we all know there is still room for icecream. I will never make another proper cake again and will always go straight for the $3.00 tub of icecream.

Cheers

Ooooo and for a more adult version you buy whipping cream and some of your favourite chocolate bars (its really good with Cherry Ripes) and you chop up the chocolates, whip the cream and mix it all into the partly melted icecream, then put it into a cake tin and re-freeze.

Top it with melted chocolate quiggles and some more whipped cream and leave it in the freezer ti; you're ready - looks amazing, easy as and delicious!!

Remember if you have the pinarta (spelling too ), remember safety, kids dont like waiting to wack those things and someone could be hurt.  Firm rules. If your doing superhero and fairies or something like that, what about pin the tail on the donkey, but pin the cape on the hero?  pin the superhero simbol on his chest?  Kids love that type of thing.  And it can take up alot of time and they get all excited.

Oh and for the cake.  Last year I made this.  Get two jumbo malteasers packets.  Put one level lot in the bottom of the dish.  smash the rest up into small bits.  let the icecream go soft, and mix the squashed up malteasers into the icecream into them.  Gently put them into the container with the layer of malteasers so you dont move them around.  Back in the freezer.  You can line the dish with Glad Bake, makes it easier to get it out, without too much waiting.    Anyway, its so yummy.  Maybe not for a 6yo birthday, but the now 14 then 13 yo boy loved it, and wants me to make it for christmas lunch this year.

piñata

Rhianwen replied:

pinata I think

I remember spending weeks making these for my birthday parties when I was younger! They were great fun! My mum always used to make sure there were even numbers of everything inside it and would collect them up and divide them out evenly among the kids when the pinata was busted - stops the fights LOL

Janine replied:

Love the idea of a chocolate cherry ripe icecream cake - might have to try this out for b'day cake next month.

My son was born on halloween, scary i know cause it was at midnight too, so we have a party every year with pass the parcel (still a hit), pinata, and of cause the main thing everyone liked was the jumping castle. Later this year a few mothers and i set up a jumping caslte supplier company and partnered with my pp. If you want a fun party than jumping castles are the way to go, the prices really arent that much with ours though.

Well - my daughter had her birthday on the weekend and it went quite well!

We played two games, let the kids muck around and eat/drink as much as they wanted - had the cake and then bought em inside to watch Ice Age 2

Not one of em wanted to go home and I havent seen my daughter smile so much as what she did on the weekend....

Now we are back to reality

For the Pinata I found one that heaps of different coloured strings hangin off the bottom and the kids all grab a string and pull i thought it was a safer version lol!!
