I've been away for a couple of days at my parents farm in the Mallee, hence why I haven't replied to my PM's. It is soooo sad up there. My dad had a clearing sale as things on the farm aren't looking good. They are cereal farmers, wheat, barley, oats, peas etc. A lot of his machinery didn't sell as there is no money around. So if anyone wants to buy a tractor or harvester, let me know... Some farmers are cutting their crops to make hay and sell to the dairy farmers who don't have any feed for their cows. The fruit farmers are doing it tough too. A lot of them are ripping out their trees as their water allocations have been cut to practically nothing and fruit trees aparently take up to 7 years to bear fruit. Be prepared for fruit prices to skyrocket..It's a real merry-go-round. Some are taking their chances and leaving it to see if there will be anything to harvest come November.
Is it the same in other areas of the country?
Hopefully things will pick up and we will get some good spring rain. Unfortunately it will be too late for most farmers tho.

Hi Joan, that is really sad and very unfortunate. I am hoping that there is some miracle of relief for all farmers australia wide.

That is terrible, it really does affect us all. I hope better things come soon for all our land workers!! They are so important to our economy.

It is so sad to hear things like that. What part of the mallee are your parents from? My mum and her partner have a fruit block in the Riverland and they are also doing it very tough at the moment with the water restrictions. My dad works at a winery in the Riverland and it will very tough there too and work will be very scarce for the casual workers that only do seasonal work. Hopefully mother nature will listen to all of our calls for help very soon!

They are about 30kms south of Swan Hill. It's very dry up there and things don't look too good for the whole Wimmera/Mallee area. All areas look to be in the same boat tho. It's dry everywhere.
