no confidence!

Discussions : General discussion : no confidence!

Hi

I have a question,

I want to go door knocking and have an open house, and personally invite people. But I really have no confidence in that, I am scared people will just slam the door in my face.

also,

My manager says if I do a letter box drop, I still should go door knocking to make sure people received my catalogue and invitations.

I am terrified of the idea of door knocking!

How do you get over your fear?

Cheers

Kathryn

Hi

dont know if I can actually answer your question cause I am very similar to you even on the phone I was(i am working on my fear of the phone and I can proudly say I ahve booked 2 parties from calling people up) but my suggestion would be to take baby steps say if you see someone in their front yard start by talking to them etc and then once you get confidence start knocking on doors, once you get your first no then you will know what to say and how it feels etc and when you get your first yes Im sure that will get you going felling great

I probably didnt help much at all But best of luck for it all

I am also "afraid" of knocking on doors, so I find other excuses to talk to people... When the lady across the street was watering I went over to introduce myself (even if she did think I was of a certain religious persuasion and nearly got me with the hose LOL); ask a neighbour what a particular plant is, or for a cutting; ask a neighbour with a certain car what they think of it as you have been thinking about getting one; even ask to borrow a cup of sugar - when you return it you can invite them over for a coffee.  I find that I am more "successful" where the first time or two I just do the social thing, mentioning casually what I do and leaving it at that, then going in with a catty or asking for a party or something... sneaky I know LOL but its what gets me out there.  I also have the most luck with shop assistants - I pick quiet stores when the assistants have time to chit chat and have got 2 bookings this way... The other way I got some interest was to take in a piece of jewellery and get the shop assistant to match something in their store to it "as its my favourite piece but I haven't got anything to wear with it".  This works particularly well if the piece is a bit unusual.

I'm not sure what PP you do Kathryn, but most of these ideas could work with most of the products in some way or another...

wow that is some really great advice!

I will start trying them!

thanks!

marina replied:

I honestly would never go door knocking nor would I tell the girls in my team to go door knocking.

Does not matter how confident I am ,  I could never do this personally.. Too way scary......

The best way is to go about your day to day shopping,  make conversation with customers or sales assistants and suttley talk about your business...

The jewellery ladies and  I are lucky as our jewellery attracts people so people come to us as we wear our product, but if you have not got a product that you can wear then just make conversation with people out in the shops.......

if you can get 2- 3 shows booked that way, then the rest of the bookings should come from within your shows...

Good luck

thanks Marina! I will definitely listen to your advice, you seem to be legend here!

ExMember148 replied:

I would certainly agree with Marina on this one, I would no longer go door knocking than fly to the moon.  And I am a very upfront person.  I do however tell anyone who stands still long enough just what I do!!  Just have business cards/catalogues on hand at all times.  And remember for every 100 no's you will get 1 yes!!!  Any more, than you're fantastic!

I have done a letter box drop of brochures and got nothing from it.  I have now gone out of my way to introduce myself to my neighbours as I walk past.  Like [ExMember148], I carry Business Cards with me and brochures always at hand in my handbag.

I did a successful "open home" last week and put through over $500 in sales I wrote on the invitations to bring a friend and receive a free gift.  I think there were about 7 people arrive, it was a very relaxing evening.  I had a lucky door prize as well.  I would have invited more people in this area but was uncertain how it would go.  So would love to do an open home again soon and invite those who didn't come.

hi hun, rather than door knock- which is now risky in our society!, i prefer wot i call the ten step challenge and that is put all your info in a plastic sleeve and drop off at the door of ten houses to the left and ten to your right with a pick-up date say 2 or 3 days later, then when you have collected them back drop off to the next ten on your right and left.....remember to keep a list of the number and name of the streets you drop and pick up from...continuing in this method gets your name, number and info out there, and if you supply a business card / magnet with your info they will call you again or you can repeat the process when a new issue arises.................................BUT NEVER INVITE STRANGERS TO YOUR HOME, you dont know their background or the friend that may tag along....break& enter is a high statistic for your personal gds, and worse PERSONAL AND FAMILY DANGER.....always use caution hun, you only get one life....PLAY IT SAFE!, cheers
