What gripes me is when you volunteer to help on a fundraising event for your school(I'm sure most of you know what I am talking about), and have all the promises in the world of help, and then nothing.

A friend and I worked hard to find as many stall holders as possible for the Market Day, but asked if the school could organise the advertising.  This was promised but never delivered.  We constantly told them they needed to put an advert in the paper, but all they did was an ad in the community noticeboard.

This sort of 'pass the buck' attitude really ticks me off!  They have a great idea to raise money and then they don't want to do anything, just let everyone else do it!  No wonder parents don't support P&C committees and their schools, they're just a joke!

Well never again! they can P*@#OFF!  Not wasteing my time anymore!

ahh! I feel better now!

Ohhhh, I can totally relate here!!! After all the hard work I put into organising that Trade Night for my son's kindy, we had very poor support from the parents of the kindy. At least the owners of the centre did show up and support it. However, they then had the nerve to turn around to me and have a go at me when we decided to raffle some of the lovely donations we received from our stall holders. They said they didnt want a raffle held and they had wanted  only the trade night and so on. I said to them " well, you want us to purchase new shade sails for the playground and update the toys and so on, how are we supposed to do that if we arent getting the support from the parents?/" The Trade night wasnt the succes we had hoped for so we needed to try and raise the funds they wanted us to spend another way. These owners have children attending the kindy too and they never bought a single ticket in the raffle. They arent a bit grateful for all the hard work myself and the secretary and treasurer have put in this year, they have only criticised our every effort yet we have raised $3000 for them with very little support from anyone. I am with you Lilygirl - I am over it!! We have now refused to do anymore fundraising for the year due to the lack of support. Gotta love these committees

A committee is a group of people that singly can do nothing, but together they can decide that nothing can be done.

or is it

Those who can DO, those who can't form a committee.\

I can only put my views on being a stall holder for such committies as I have attended a few events run by schools.

As a stall holder I love to support and attend as many schools as possiable with the range of products I sell. But after the last few and weekend of hard yaka and getting next to nothing out of the weekend I will be reconsidering what events I take on especially school fundraisers. To get at the end of a event not even a thank your for your time is just unkind.

It is such a shame the our schools do not spend money to make money as support might be a lot higher from the school community and also the local community. A lot of the events that I have attended have been booked in for at least 3months and yet they still only advertise (if they advertise) and sell tickets only a few weeks before.

They also do not realise that if the event is a flop then stall holders will not come back which in most cases the event would not go a head if they did not have their stalls.

All in all it is a lose for our children. As for being a stall holder I do love supporting schools as much as possiable all over Brisbane (took me 2 1/2hrs to get to a trade night on Friday night with personal dramas along the way but I got there and I attended) but when you are not even thankyou'd then you do have to take a step back and have a look at who you support. I call it "support" as 99% of the events I attend give a donation for future raffles or on the day raffles (even if I do not have to I still love to give a product) and of course your stall fee and then you may not get sales or bookings etc..

Lisa chin up and you do know that dispite the lack of support from the p&c you have the support of some of those who have attended your market.

Cheers

Hi Lilygirl,

I am going to put this to you from a P& C member.  My school has over 70 families and our committee consists of 3 members.  We have struggled for years to get more helpers, but nobody will assist us.

I was wondering if you were not happy in how your P&C coommittee was run why don't you join yourself, so that you can have a say in how it is run.

When I help out I don't expect a thankyou, ( although they are nice when they happen). I see all the things that my kids get out of the fundraising efforts that I put in and that is my thankyou.  Especially when you see your kids playing on the new playgorund equipment that you know that  your time an effort has supplied to them.

CKCath replied:

You may find that many of the school and kindergartens that do fundraising events will send you a thank you letter after the event rather than thank you on the day. Like all committees there is a protocol to follow and it may be the secretarys job to do those.

Lilygirl_wytch replied:

Hi lorton,

I understand what you are saying, and normally that wouldn't be a bad idea, but, our committee has no vacancies for membes at this time.

so we formed a fundraising committee which consists of a P&C member and parents to help with ideas and events.

We will see what happens at the next meeting as quite a few people want to voice their thoughts and ideas and disappointments.
