No more party swaps!

Discussions : Off your chest... : No more party swaps!

Hi Everyone,

I have had a bad weekend.  On Saturday, my 10am party cancelled on Friday (but did re-book for Oct) and then there was my 2pm party.  Well, what a party.  It was a party swap, when I got there she had not even cleaned up the place, clothes and toys everywhere and food crumbs all over the floor.  Only 3 people showed and 1 didn't even have children, so I don't know why she was there, the other person was her sister and 1 was a friend.  Less than $150 in sales and no bookings.  When I did a party for her, I invited 20 people and 14 came, she had $1500 in sales and 2 bookings.  I am never doing a party swap again.  I put so much effort into her party and she didn't do the same for me.  Also I put on a great spread and she just handed around a box of crackers and some cubed cheese, at least there was coffee.  Feel better now that I have that off my chest.

Oh no! That is the reason why I don't do party swaps, not because I'm concerned about the other consultant hosting for me, but that I'm worried I won't live up to expectations! I don't know many people in the area, and my family are very widespread, so when I swap with someone it is only ever by catalogue with no strings attached.  (I love receiving my catties in the mail, and although I haven't had any spare cash lately, be assured all you lovely ladies who have me on your mailing lists, I linger over each one and have a wishlist ready!)  I am more than happy to run a party for another consultant, but not as a swap - I make it clear to my pp friends that although I would love to help them out I just can't host a party at the moment.  I always show their catties to anyone who'll look, and they are the first people I recommend when someone asks me if I know a lady from xyz.

Hope you have some more successful parties soon

I have done party swaps on a couple of occasions (not with anyone on this site) and am very very cautious to do one again.

Where have the Genuine party swappers gone??

magneticstar replied:

I have actually done 2 party swaps this year, and both were completely different. ( I have learnt from my mistake!)  For my first swap, I mistakenly held her party first.  I invited almost 20 people, 12 showed up, $650 in sales with 2 bookings.  2 days before she was to host her show with me....She cancels

I did however organise another swap (with a different company/hostess) but this time, I made sure she held her party first.  I believe I am of good nature, and would never cancel on ANYONE, so at least this way I knew she was going to hold up her end of the bargain.  We both made a lot of effort and both our parties were over $1000.

Just wanting to let you know that there are still some "goodies" out there, but just to be sure, get them to host their party for you first.

Happy partying!!

or better still - have the parties held on the same day.   ie hers in the morning, then yours in the arvo or evening.

ExMember148 replied:

Well that will definitely put an end to party swaps, if every consultant waits for the other consultant to hold their party first!!

Personally, I have been doing this for years - but over time, they never improve (unlike a bottle of good red) - so no go here for party swaps anymore!!

kathymollie replied:

Yes l agree...party swaps are a joke....l did one for a young girl selling body shop a few months ago..just to help her get started.......had heaps of people turn up including my own  Snr sales leader..plenty of sales for her...but when it came to recipricate..she was full of excuses why she couldnt have a Fifth Avenue Collection show...and never did have one,...

Never again..no more Mr nice guy for me...............

partyplans replied:

excuses, no guests, no sales, unclean houses... sounds like every 2nd party in this industry (with or without a swap)  !

LOL!

The person asking for the swap has to be the one that hosts first!...and don't set a date for hosting their party until they have hosted your one.

Otherwise dodgies will ask for swaps with 100 people, get them all to host first, and never reciprocate!  They are booked out for months.

(doh!.. now I have probably just given dodgies trolling this site an idea)

Ladywytch replied:

Just don't do swaps at all.  It isn't worth the heartache.

richaky replied:

I have had the same experience and was very hesitant with the last couple I have booked but both turned out great!!! I had a ball at both!! It's like any party you can have a great one or can be a total flop, just gotta try to shrug it off and keep smiling!!!

scrappy replied:

wow thank god there was at least one good response to this! I have just put up a post for party swaps! I will be careful now, when I do this, I have done party swaps for years with great success! I hope that not all consultants now are not that hungry for business, it is disgusting what I have read! I hope that the people I meet take more pride in themselves and their business!!!
