Hi Kelly
I have been told a great way to clean a kettle is to add lemon juice in the boiling water. This might also help in the awful new taste.
Hope it works??

Hi Kelly,
I found this in a book I have. 3 Cups of white vinegar and two Cups of water in a kettle, boil and leave overnight. Then empty and fill with clean water, boil and empty again, repeat last step then refill with clean water and it should be ready to use.
Cheers Julie

Hi Kelly
Tell me ....How did you go with your new kettle and the smell??? Did you try the tricks posted to rid the smell? I did the vinegar trick and boy..it sure did get rid of that 'new appliance' aroma!! Bit like when you buy a new car!!
Cheers

I tried absolutely everything I could think of to get rid of the horrid taste and smell - but alas, no luck. In the I took it back and bought a totally different kettle, not going to take the risk of getting sick from. Nice new bright red steel kettle now. Much better.
Thanks to everyone for all their suggestions!!
