Discussions : General discussion : Which Electricity Supplier do you use?
SaucyKath wrote:
I know that some of the other States have already had this for awhile, but in Qld. we've only fairly recently had it changed that we may select our own electricity supplier.
I half expected to be bombarded with advertising from the different companies available - but have never seen any until now. I've just had a telemarketer knock on the door about Jack Green Energy - so this got me thinking about it all again
Have you found an Electricity Supplier to be of better value for $'s? or any other feedback would be great.
By the way the link for JackGreen Energy is www.jackgreen.com.au if anyone is interested in reading about them. Apparently its the same price but a % of you're bill is donated to Planet Ark

In Victoria we have had the chance to choose which supplier we have for our Gas and Electricity for some time now. Initally we changed over to give it a try with one of the competitiors but soon ended up going back to our original supplier as they kept mucking up our billing. It turned into a real headache and in the end we hadnt acheived anything. This kinda put us off looking into it further. However there might be better deals around now. So i guess slowly you will find out about what is available to you and then you can weigh up the pros and cons.
For us it was better to stick with what we knew.

SaucyKath replied:
OK? thanks. But since you haven't mentioned any company names not really sure???
Snazza replied:
Hi Kath,
I didnt mention the company as I wasnt sure if you would have heard of it being in Qld.
Our current one is AGL and we tried Country Energy.
I havent heard of the JackGreen one.

SaucyKath replied:
thanks for that. I've heard of both. and JackGreen is available in all states except NT apparently

To leave or to stay??? Well with us we haven't had any others approach us by way of mail or telephone so I made the executive decision for the house and have left it with Energex (or whatever they call themselves now...otherwords haven't looked into any others)
Now Kath, you have sparked me to look into that!! Perhaps I could be getting a better deal. Usually I am a bit old hat! Stick to the ones you know! Well, of course unless they do the wrong thing or whatever. But perhaps this could be a little assignment for the week!! Then when I find a good deal I will pass it on.

I have recently changed to Origin. Has anyone had any problems with them? I was with AGL. I haven't really had any problems with any of the companies I have been with. With Origin, I get 1 months free electricity a year & a card that gives me discounts at different places. I don't know if it will be worth it but I am willing to give it a chance.

I am thinking of changing to Origin too as we have our gas with them and they seem very reasonable. Not overly impressed with AGL myself so would like change. It will be good to see what others think of other suppliers.
LydiaM replied:
Hi everyone,
Was with AGL for quite a while until hubby got sucked in at the front door...yes, that happens very easily.
So we are now with Victoria Electricity...we have turned green with both Gas & Electricity, have been now for four months, so far so good, paying that little bit less (which I am suprised about) with the added of bonus of seeing our emissions...not that I am a greenie (hubby is) but I think it's important for our children and their children's children.
Good Luck all
Stickerlady replied:
I totally agree with the being sucked in at the front door Lydia, that is how I changed to origin. But sometime you need that to find out that there are different products out there or a cheaper option. I never thought to change until they can to the door. But the person that can to the door was very hard to understand, his English wasn't too clear, that was the only thing that I didn't like. But that is the world we live in. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against them but I just wish the where a but easier to understand.
LydiaM replied:
I can tell you that Origin are out in force in Victoria at the moment....2 days ago I sent one away say "not interested" and only tonight again I have answered the door to the same person.....well, hmmmm, grrrrrrrrrr - wakes up my all day disgruntled, feverish 2 year old (7:30pm), told him to get off my property or I will phone police for harrassment. Poor guy but I did tell him 2 days ago, Not Interested. I love the ones that want to challenge you....but why...let me see your bill....I can give you better.....why do you feel like that....I almost feel like saying "I DONT CARE...GO AWAY" I use to say "I'm renting just to get them off my door step or I'm house sitting" (doesn't work anymore) lol
Have to agree though, if it weren't for door to door salesman, the last thing I thought I would have to do amongst grocery shopping etc., would be for me to go electricity shopping which is just as important.
Good Luck in all your decisions

Origin is actually the company that was automatically replaced for us by Energex. One day we just got a bill that said origin has taken over from energex and all our bills would now look like such and such. It is exactly the same! Not cheaper or more expensive.
stace1 replied:
i work for origin energy as my full time job. it's such a frustrating job because no one understands how it works. The government set the rates for gas and electricity and we get people calling asking for the rates to the cent and they don't understand everyone will give them the exact same rate. Some will exclude gst to sound cheaper. what a waste of time. the way to compare retailers is by what they can give you. some offers are a small percentage off the rates or green energy at no extra cost. most people are environmentally conscious now (and they should be) and origin is the proven number one retailer for green.
there is a certain retailer out there starting with a J and ending in Green which have the worst green products, investigated by government green departments.
renaek replied:
I am with Country Energy as my partner works as a linesman for them.
He has a ball when other companies - salesman come to our door explaining to him how it all works, etc. He has the patience but i too lose it after already telling them im not interested.
