I have a habit of hanging my phone on the front of my shirt and forget that I'm actually calling someone, then every now and then someone will answer and I will have no idea who I'm calling or why!

I can't say how many rings exactly (have never really counted em before...) - but I let it ring for a bit when I'm calling my customers/friends...
As not everyone has an answering machine... they may have been "out the back", rushing to get to the phone - only to have it hang up on them (My pet hate though is when someone calls, gets the machine & won't leave a message - why bother calling if you're not going to leave a message?! argh!)
