I purchased a prize barell the other year and whenever a customer ordered i would say i will place you all in the draw to win some free products plus many more great prizes. However when they were drawn they actually won a party, i shared this with some other consultants and now nearly all their guests win. It works great and they get so excited because they won it! If you cant afford the barrel than just punch a hole and have a decorated box for it.

ahhhahahahaha thats so sneaky!
don't they catch on??
rachep replied:
Thats sneaky but a great idea. You wouldnt be able to do it to often to the one group of girls cos they will catch on but do it at every new party you have where you have never met the girls and it would work a treat.
AngelicaLyn replied:
Thats not just sneaky but underhanded. I wouldn't be caught dead doing it, if you promise prizes and great gifts there has to be more than one option in there. If someone happens to pull out the free party that is already free there must be some other incentive for that person to go for it. I know i am not stupid enough to fall for it and am surprised if others are. I like all my dealings to be genuine and above board.

Sneaky in away however all prizes are listed on the raffle form and on the box, it says in clear writing.
WIN YOUR FREE PARTY EXPERIENCE IN YOUR HOME, ORDER AT THE PARTY AND ENTER HERE
PRIZES:
1st Prize: Free Party Experience and Voucher (3 to win)
2nd Prize: Free Products Hamper worth $120 (1 to win)
3rd Prize: Free $10 Products (5 to win)
Simply all posted, so im not doing anything wrong and my team love the idea, im not doing anything wrong because its all posted on the form and box.
AngelicaLyn replied:
No matter what is written on the box if all they are winning is a "free" party that never costs them anything anyway then it is cheating them.
This is a quote directly from your first post.
"However when they were drawn they actually won a party"
Oh and by the way barell is actually spelt Barrel

The other risk I see here, is if people come to believe it is not a very reputable "competition", that they may not only think worse of the consultant, but also of the company that the consultant is representing.
A competition should be about offering an incentive they could not necessarily get any other way. People will spend $20, if they think they have the chance they will win something else - probably not just a party though.

Sounds like the Secret Envelope idea.
You have a box full of envelopes, and inside they have all different prizes on them.
Ranging from things like: Host your own party, 10% off your next order, Free Delivery (if there is a delivery charge for your company, Free Product to the value of $...
But before anyone picks an envelope, they are told that they must stick to the rules and accept they prize. So if they do pick out the Host your own party, they must honour it and hold a party.
However I would let them know that there would be say at least 2 host your own parties in the box out of say 10 envelopes.
If you choose to use the barrel the same rules would apply.
Do the draw in front of the guests as well. They all like to see what each other can get for FREE on when the next party is.

I would like to know how people react when they are told they've won a "free" party?
If someone doesn't book a party at the time but then is told later they've won one do they actually book? This seems alittle pushy if they haven't actually booked one out of interest
adulttoysatdj replied:
Funny enough, they get all excited and start telling me who their having and what they would like as host gifts, its amazing what winning can do to people.

In my years of party planning I have never adopted "win a party". Why? I would rather do a party for someone who is genually interested rather then someone who HAS to do a party, no matter what you sell.
Would you rather party with someone who gives 110% effort or someone who is rather not interested?
I treat my business like a hobby....something I really take pride in to make it special and fun....no tricks and I feel people really tell the difference and I get more response that way.
But everyone....remember it is you own business...whatever you practice...that's up to you and if it works for you then fine...I just think it's sneaky.

The thing with a "so called free party "is that everyone who is going to a party plan party knows that the hostess did not have to pay the consultant to come along and do the party. If my name went into such a draw I would laugh at the consultant and there would be no way I go ahead and hold it because all party plans except for those who workshops, make and takes do not charge the hostess for holding the party therefore you are not winning a free party as it is already free. Most customers who do buy at parties are not going to be tricked into such a rip off raffle or game - my customers are not silly or stupid so I would never offer such prizes but would offer genuine free prizes. But like Tanya said if it works for you do it. If you can sleep at night with yourself knowling that you are offer rip off prizes then so be it but I like to offer something more to mine.

I can see where you are all coming from with the winning a FREE party.
When I was with Tupperware and as a manager, they are taught that their hostess WIN their rewards.
We all know that you dont win the rewards with any party plan. The more effort you put into having a successful party, the better the rewards are going to be. Yes you do get the rewards for FREE but you are not winning them.
I suppose its a dicey topic of discussion, but also a good one to see what others think.
adulttoysatdj replied:
By the way with winning a party not only is the party free of cause, but you also automatically receive a free $50 gift voucher to spend plus a free hamper full of products. So its not just a free party for prize one, their are many other once off offers also. Its not like were ripping them off as they also get all these extras.
Janine replied:
Okay, so you are offering free gifts as well, then why not just offer the free gifts and not add that they get a free party because even if a customer wants a party and they did not win it it is still free to them hince all parties are free. I am a firm believer that if someone wants a party they will approach the consultant to book one. Sure throw in the hostess info and consultant info but do not drum it into the customers. The more you push for parties the more likely people will refuse and may end up not wanting to attend parties/host posties. I was like this years ago with a certain company or should I say a consultant and I never even purchased at the party. I have since found a wonderful consultant from the same company who is just great - no pushing for sales or parties and she finds it easier to book in parties than being out there pushing customers.

hmm i didn't understand this post when i first read it coz of the "Free Party" Statement all I could think was no way would any of my customers fall for that nor would i try to do that!! But if your offering product as well i could see how that may work!
