Drove 1 Hour and Hostess not home!

Fridays show was all confirmed, 2 days prior. I tried calling on the day and smsing , but no response.

The show was over 1 hour away. Shall I go or not...

Well i did confirm Wednesday, so off I went, but i had a funny feeling about it.

Get there, a car in the driveway. Good sign.  Knock Knock on the door, no answer. Wait in the car for 10 minutes , keep trying to phone but no answer.

Normally my blood would boil and have feelings of irritation, but I have learnt to be calm and that you take the goods with the bads.

I get out a big black expensive looking leatherette box which is normally given to expensive sets, put in the Free Hostess gift which is a stunning silver necklace with a circle, put it in a high gloss bag with tissue paper.  ( i am trying to make her feel guilty here)

I also leave a glitter magazine showing who i  am  as she has never met me and leave a thankyou card saying.  Dear........ Sorry I missed you. Please find your Hostess gift. Have a great day.   Kindest Regards Marina

Then I drive another 1 hour back to home.   total 2 long hours in the car.....

I did not think I would hear from her again, but she called me the next day, apologising. She had no way of getting in touch with me ( as if) and if she could make another booking.

So i booked her in and fingers crossed it is a good show. I will let you know how it all goes.

the funny thing is she is also a party plan consultant.  no one from here. I got her from a show here in Melbourne. I could not get any bookings from the guests, so my hostess called her friend on the other side of town and she agreed.

any other stories like this.... Hopefully not....

I have a story a little similar. Luckily I didn't have a long drive (I think you were very generous leaving a hostess gift for someone who was not home btw Marina... I wouldn't have)

My story was for a Card Making Workshop. I presented a Demo for a young lass, she then booked a workshop off her party for about four weeks later. Delivery of her party order was a two weeks prior to the workshop so I could confirm numbers and have time to order in supplies etc.

When I did the delivery her partner was there but she was not home, so the delivery was left with him and I phone my hostess later that day. She told me she had seven possible, but so far only two were definite. I said I would call her later in the week to double check on numbers.

I called her the next week, mobile phone rang out..... every day for seven days! I decided the morning of the workshop to pop past and see her instead.

As I drove past, she lived on a bad corner, to do my u-turn I saw her out the front of her house. I parked, walked up the drive to be told by her partner that she had just headed off to do the shopping. Funny thing is... this girl does not drive! I said I had seen the lass walk in the front door as I pulled up. He kindly offered to go inside and check to see if she was back.

Surprise surprise she was, and as she walked towards her door I heard her partner saying, "What could I say, she saw you"

Poor lass.. all her freinds had cancelled and she didn't know how to tell me. Silly thing was postponement would have suited me better anyway.

Oh I feel for you, I had this happen to me once whilst working with another Party Plan company.

It's terrible.

chocolateaddict replied:

This hasn't happened to me yet but I just tried to ring a client to confirm her party for this weekend and her (home) phone is disconnected. It is the only number I have for her.
So, I just whipped up a quick letter asking for confirmation, if I don't hear from her by friday then I am assuming she has cancelled.

Could just be an oversight but seeing as I havent confirmed numbers or anything with her I am not going to travel and her not be there.

I certainly wouldnt have travelled an hour without confirming!  How could she not have been able to get in contact if you had sent text messages?? weird! lol

reggie replied:

This has happened with me before - a girl from work - confirmed on the friday in person.

Rock up saturday mornng at 9.45am - noone home. i ring and she says - "of i forgot about you - im going up north for the weekend now" i was flaming red with anger.

she re-booked. i was iffy. i confirmed again the day before. i rocked up so an empty house again - she drove into the driveway 5 min after me and said that noone was coming but she will place an order.

what a waste of my time.....

This hasn't happened to me yet (knock on wood) but I do find that the worst people for cancelling or poseponing are other Party Plan consultants.  I have had 3 people cancel on me at the last minute ie the day of the party (and one, an hour before).  They are all Party Plan consultants!

This did happen to me once.  I confirmed a week prior, plus the day before and the hostess was very excited.  I got to her house 1/2 before the party to set up and no-one was there.  I called the house, heard the answering machine switch on, hung up.  Then tried her mobile which was turned off.  This only had that annoying thing that you can only send your number so I sms'd her.  Waited til the time her party was to start and not even a guest turned up.  As you can imagine, I was fuming.  For the next week I rang her mobile but was constantly turned off.  About 2 weeks later I get a phone call from the girls sister who could't appologise enough to me.  It turns out the Hostess was actually involved in a very nasty hit and run (as a pedestrian) and had been in hospital fighting for her life.  Her sister had called all of the guests, but forgot about me!

Just goes to show how we shouldn't jump to conclusions.  I sent her a bunch of flowers in hospital and my well wishes.

marina replied:

Well the hide of her..

her show was supposed to be last week and I sent her a new reminer letter and then i called her 2 days prior and she goes  " i want to cancel the party"

Like she does not think my saturday is valuable.. I could have booked someone else in..

she does not feel guilty that i drove 2 hours and again loss of income as i could have booked someone else in the first time and then to do it again.....

She is a party plan consultant and  i just do not understand how she can have the nerve to do what she did twice over with no conscience what so ever...

anyway i am over it . it is the other 99.9% of the good parties that keep me going....

kathymollie replied:

Some people are incredibly bad mannered and don't give a toss about anyone else....

And for her to be another party planner is disgraceful....l bet she would just love it , if it happened to her.............sending her on a wild goose chase like she has sent you Marina...would be her getting her just desserts...

Yes the other 99.9% of great bookings make up for it..thank goodness...

Simone replied:

Hi Marina,

Bad luck about the show!! I have found the worst people to organise party's are pp consultants themselves (apologies if you are really good at them whoever is reading this..).

I had one cancel one Sunday morning, her excuse was that she had had a migraine yesterday and didn't get organised. Since she should have invited people already I was left wondering what that had to do with it. Anyway, as it was the second time she had done this I then refused to book her in again. I am not wasting my time following down a workshop that is not going to happen.

Move on I say!!
