This for those who have their own websites to help those who are wanting to get a website etc..

1) did you build your own website?

3) if you did not build your own website would you recommend the company/business who did build your website?

3) have you got a great hosting deal?

4) what do you recommend as a must have item in your website package?

There are so many offers/business/companies out there who offer website buliding and hosting but for those of us who do not know much about this cyber world stuff it can be mind boggling whre to even start.

Firstly, sorry I havent answered your PM regarding this topic- very busy at the moment, sick kids. To answer your questions:

1) Yes I built my own website - have background in IT among other things

2)N/A

3) I think I pay around $30 or $40 per year for my hosting will haqve to double check that one - Mecca Hosting

4)Hmmm, this is a tough one because every business/company has its own needs and particular focus. With mine I built in a feature where interested parties could have their questions answered, they can find a consultant nearest them (obviously pointed in the direction of one of my team members), or they can book a party, find out more about joining the team.

I didn't include a shopping cart because I felt that to fully appreciate the quality of the products you need to have them in front of you  - to touch, feel, smell.... Creates an emotional attachment to the products.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask away. I will try to get you other pm answered today  - Elizabeth had better cooperate!!

I would recommend the website designer. Mark did a good job and he was pretty cheap. I paid $630 for my website My domain name cost me $69 for two yeras, however I have seen it cheaper and $7.26 per month for hosting.

1) did you build your own website? yes - I built my original site using dreamweaver. then I downloaded free shopping cart software and installed many modifications (and still going LOL)

3) if you did not build your own website would you recommend the company/business who did build your website?

3) have you got a great hosting deal? not sure still investigating this one. I go through godaddy (US). I found the aussie ones more expensive. But there's so many of them... it's hard to know.

4) what do you recommend as a must have item in your website package? plenty of bandwidth, if you're having lots of pics plenty of GB/MB's.

an FTP program is also useful for uploading things to your site.

thanks to whoever recommended my "other" company - i have a new client now whom i'm building a website for, and they were referred by a friend on partyplans.com.au!

Anyway, i just thought i'd post here that many web designers CAN be a big rip off. Shop around and get lots of quotes....As an idea, (and i'm not really posting here for advertising) my partner and I do webdesign & hosting, and our packages start from as little as $390 AND we offer a payment plan option which helps smaller businesses or new businesses with cash flow issues pay it off over a period of time.

I have had some clients come to me, after receiving quotes for $2000+ and we have done them a website for less than 1/4 of this!!!!!! Just a note guys, so beware when shopping for web designers. :)

Anyone who is interested in getting a website up and has no idea when to start, i recommend www.aus-designs.com.au (me & my partner ) - we'll work out something to suit you, your budget and your business.

Hi Jo,

Just is there any websites that we can have a sticky at that you have made up?

Janine

Janine replied:

Hi again Jo,

Just had a sticky at the website and came across some websites to look at but I was wondering if you have any websites that are not so male orientated that can be veiwed?

Thanks

Janine

HandsOn replied:

well for starters, there is my website: www.feltboardstories.com.au

or www.amandaparkmakeup.com is another that i have done. i am also currently working on one that does childrens hand and feet impressions, but its not fair on the client if i show the work in progress, so youll have to wait a bit longer for that one...

I built my own sites Shaniqua and Roskan Consultants through Webcity Pro.  The company is based in Canada but it has to be one of the most user friendly sites I've come accross.  They have hundreds of templates to choose from or you can upload your own images etc.  They have flexible payment options and the support is fantastic.  There is an Australian reseller based in the Blue Mountains NSW who is like me a WAHM.  The site also has shopping carts etc.  If anyone wants any further information please feel free to contact.

Cheers
