Discussions : Starting your own Party Plan : To Catalogue Or Not To Catalogue

Some companies do not have catalogues due to stock turn over and I am just wondering if this is a help or hinderance to consultants?
The cost of professional catalogues are huge but would professional home made catalogues be better than no catalogue?
For those who do run their own party plan companies with or without consultants do you have a catalogue or pricelist or neither?

Years ago when I had my own Party Plan business, I had A5 size catalogues that I made on the computer, and I also had A4 size ones in plastic display folders (pages easily interchanged when stock changed). The display folder ones were used at the parties for people to look at. The A5 ones went to hostesses before the parties, and I also used them for mail order. This worked very well for me. However at the time I hadn't branched out and taken on any other consultants.
I only stopped doing it because I had a major upheaval in my life and stopped everything I was doing so I could take a break.

Hi Janinesfishy,
I regards to catalogue or not to catalogue. The pp company I am involved with does not have a catalogue as the stock changes rapidly. This is my first pp company and I think it is a fantastic system as I only sell what I have with me. I do not have the added expense of purchasing catalogues and do not have to take orders or deliver. No hassles when products are out of stock as my customers go home happy after the party with their purchases and dont have to think about delivery times etc. I often receive feedback from clients saying how they love how there is no orders and a lot saying that other companies should do the same. Cheers Julie

Hi Janinesfishy....I don't have a catalogue. I make my own jewellery and do a lot of one off pieces so a catalogue is a waste of time. However, I also sell jewellery/makeup organisers and I have developed a catalogue for this. I sell my jewellery on the night (everything has a price tag) and if people want to order the organisers then they can do that too. Everyone seems happy with this arrangement. I certainly haven't had any complaints and hopefully won't. Hope this helps.
Kind regards, Maria

I have catalogues because my stock does not change, unless I add a new product. I had a friend take a catalogue to work and sold some products and I can always go door knocking around the block like Avon.

I have made my own catalogues at home and put them in nice plastic folders. I like the idea of selling products that I have with me on the night. I am starting to build up a larger stock range, so in the future I can eliminate the need to order the items and wait weeks for delivery. I am sure my customers would like that. At the moment, I do not have an eftpos machine, are they easy to get hold of and are they expensive to have? Sue

I think having catalogues promotes outside orders, for those who can't attend parties, or are not real party goers. I know I go through phases of... give me a catalogue, i'm interested in it, but i don't have time to go to your party etc.
another advantage of having catalogues... is that people may leave them on their table and when they have friends or family over they will more than likely check it out, ask questions about the company, maybe even place an order via their friend.
