Delivery Of Your Products

Discussions : Starting your own Party Plan : Delivery Of Your Products

Janine wrote:

Here is another topic to cover when starting your own PP company.

- will your consultants deliver party orders?

- will the business send the party orders directly to the hostess?

- do customers have to pay at the party with delivery to follow?

- will your products be for sale at the party? Therefore pay and take at the party with no deliveries.

- do you have a payment date and then a delivery date?

- how long will the period be from the payment date?

- also how much you will be charging for p/h on each customer order?

This topic is more food for thought when starting up your own party plan company.

I think it is probably best to send the package off to the hostess, unless to consultant wants to deliver. Also you need to charge a delivery fee which I was not doing, but at the next party whenever that will be I will be charging $2.00 per person.

Hi Janine,

We are in the same position as you. We are new to party plan and the demand has outgrown our 2 consultants. As a result we are looking to expand and are encountering all of the same problems/question that you are. We are going to bite the bullet and make a decision in the next week or so. We will have to keep each other informed so that both don't go down the same path and make the same mistakes.

What courier companies (if any) do people use? The best for reliability and time?

What costs?

Mandy replied:

I get my freight delivered with Star Track Express and i find they are very reliable.

ExMember148 replied:

I have found all the courier companies a total joke unto themselves.  I have lots of courier companies calling and delivering and have a chat to the blokes all the time. They have some hair raising stories indeed!!!

Fastway indeed have been a real drama with us.  We can send a parcel to Toowoomba and Dalby on the same day .  (Dalby is further out than Toowoomba and in actualy fact has to go through Toowoomba) But our Dalby consultant always gets her parcel at least 1 day before Toowoomba.  The courier guys in Toowoomba apparently are too busy fighting over who is taking what!!! Like wouldn't you be taking what you could as you are getting paid per piece??

As for track and trace, thats a waste of time, I was told that there was no parcel picked up with that number on it, rang my courier and he said, yeah I did yesterday.  The track and trace number never ever turned up !! And the Fastway head office just didn't want to know about it, in their opinion it didn't exist!!

Fastway also lost some chocolates of a local company, the parcel was travelling to Sydney for a wedding and was sent 3 weeks before the wedding, 1 week before the wedding and they had still not turned up!!

There are lots more I could tell - including those annoying callback cards, even though all my parcels are to be left in a designated area as I am usually just at the school and back in 10 minutes.....well when they don't leave it where they are supposed to and I have to wait another 24-48 hours for the next drop off run, I sure let them have it!!

Australia Post is the way to go!! Register you parcel and relax!!

Thanks for the advice there [ExMember148] on couriers!  I was going to start looking into different courier companies, believing they might be more reliable than Australia Post.  I currently send everything by Registered post or Express post.  I've just looked into signing a contract with Australia Post and using their e-parcel service, looks like that might be the way to go!!

Cheers,
Jo

I currently use Australia Post for everything!  Yes, there are those stories out there of parcels going missing and the like, but I have had no problems with them!

I have looked into other courier companies and the like, but some of the stories I have heard about them have been horrific, so have stayed with what I know....Aussie Post!

I use Aussie express post bags which are great. But my problem is when sending boxes... if you want to send them express post through Aussie post it costs you an arm and a leg! Which is why I thought a courier would be better for those type of things and would hopefully get their faster.

I'm so confused on who to use though and working out their prices are a bit out their at times to! There's just so many of them (couriers) I just want someone to tell me yup.... Star Track is the best and best value for money or whatever courier company is applicable?

ANy other suggestions girls!

I've got to get a package out either overnight or two days at the moment and I'm not registered with any couriers ............ i think i should go eat. today has been to stressful!

IBP replied:

We charge a flat rate for postage which is a bit under Aussie Post costs and then send all party orders to the individual guests.
We used Fastway for a while but needed more flexibility so I prefer to go to Aussie Post every day and be able to select the size of the satchel/box.
Sending boxes does cost a lot so I'm trying to get the products into satchels whenever possible.

I too did the same thing and didn't charge a delivery fee when first starting out and now regret it. Its harder to introduce one to those customers who keep having parties amongst their friends & family who previously had no delivery fee. :-(

Also, some products we need to ship are quite bulky, does anyone charge a different fee for bulky items? We did charge delivery on only certain products which were considered bulky and a $2 per person fee likely wouldn't cover that.
