Discussions : Starting your own Party Plan : Public Liability

Hello,

I'm researching starting my own Party Plan business and have been reading your posts, very informative and helpful, thank you.  Just a query.  Do many party plan consultants have public liability or take a chance and not have it due to the cost? I look forward to any replies. Thank you

"Take a chance"   NOPE!  NO WAY!!!!  I definitely have Public Liability Insurance - I beleive the risk is just not worth it.

Hello Kath,

If you don't mind me asking did you take out a seperate public liability policy or add it to your house insurance?

Thanks in Advance

SaucyKath replied:

Hi Michelle,  of course I don't mind you asking - thats what this site is all about.     Our company has actually been able to secure Public Liability Insurance through an Insurance Broker that offers us coverage at a very reasonable per annum rate.    So the short answer is - I've been able to purchase my PLI coverage though my Head Office.

I'm assuming that most PP Companies offer this service to their Consultants - afterall its just not worth the risk.      And if this isn't the case perhaps this is something else to add to the "check this out first" list people researching for a new company to join use.

Goodness!! Public Liability Insurance is not something I even thought of when I signed up. Is it something I should be looking in to?

Hennypenny replied:

Absolutely- I think it's essential these days.

The same way that a home owner has liability insurance for visitors in their home - (it's included in your home & contents) I think that anyone going anywhere as a sales representative needs to cover themselves incase of some sort of accident. Maybe someones' grandma might trip over your product you left on the floor and break her hip - just an example- and you as the "outsider" could get fronted for damages.

You absolutely need cover if you want to do stalls at expos and other events. It is usually a requirement of the organiser.

This is something I only considered since I was researching starting my own company, but the more I looked into it, the more I realised that it really is essential for all consultants.

I suggest getting as many quotes as possible as the costs from one company to another vary considerably.

Regards,

Andrea.
