Discussions : Boost your bookings : Does everyone know what you do?

I was asked this very question last night at training.
So, does everyone you know, know what you do? Be completely honest with yourself here. You may think yeah, of course they do but you'd be surprised. This morning I made a list of everyone I could think of that I know from different places and some of them would have no clue what I do.
This is when we need to open our mouths and tell everyone. That one person you tell could make an enormous difference in your business. His/her reply may be "Wow! I lost my ***** consultant. Ive run out of what ever. Can I get some? I just love those products"
I assumed everyone knew what i did. Big mistake. Last year I was invited to a Le Reve party!

hehe EVERYONE knows what I do - sometimes not such a good thing

You are right. Im sure that 1/2 the people that i know never new what i was doing. I must sit down and also do a list of all the people i know and then spread the word on what im going to be doing. That is a good idea. Thanks.

they just look at all my bling bling that I wear and ask away .
Love it when they ask me and not the other way around

I have no problems in telling people what I do. Some people get a bit 'funny' but most people just laugh and say "really???" and I just say "yes". If they seem really keen, I tell them to have a party some time but usually I just make sure they know how to contact me when they want one or if they're not likely to have one, someone they know down the track will and then they'll know exactly who to contact.

Hello,
This is a good point Kelly - I don't think everyone I know would know what I do - I know they all know that I work Full Time as an Export Manager but I don't think they would know that I am a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator as well - I am going to write a list of the people that don't know what I do and send them a post card and let them know. Thanks for sharing this Kelly

I asked this question for a few reason but one in particular.
Not all consultants have a very good track record with customer service - they don't ring to see if their customer is enjoying her new products, does she have any questions etc. I had the experience of going ot an Enjo party and had spent a fair amount of money. The demonstrator who was actually a manager with the company booked a party from me. I rang her 3 weeks after her delivery to see how she was enjoying her oils, did she have any questions etc. 6 months on from that original party I still have heard from her to see if I am satisfied with my purchases.
You find that more customer a driven away by poor customer service as opposed to the product itself. That next person you tell what you do could be your next hostess or consultant even. She/he may have lost their ***** consultant. How would you know?!
PatriciaStorie replied:
You have a very valid point Kelly. I always rang my hostesses about a week or so after there delivery to see if everything was alright. I think they apprichiated the fact that i rang. Its well worth doing.

Ok, this is just MHO - There are also times when you don't want to be contacted by a consultant. I know I have been to parties and just purchased for the sake of purchasing and got out of there. Didn't have a report with the consultant and would be glad if I never heard from her again. I really am too busy to have consultants ringing me saying, oh did it fit, is it the right shade ? I can see your point and it's very valid, but in todays society sometimes some things are better left alone.
PS: Also, in my field, 9 out of 10 customers DO NOT want to be recognised or contacted again. They are happy with their purchases, and i make sure my name/details are everywhere on everything, so if they need something they will be able to track me down.

I tell everyone when i get the chance - but sometimes feel that they think i am just bragging. I have had a few people show interest, but a lot dont ever follow through with anything. I have recently made some postcards up, and am giving them out like there's no tomorrow!! I hope this helps to raise everyones awareness of me and what I do.
I agree with [ExMember148], many people are too busy to have calls to see how things are - but i guess if perhaps it is a once off - call and make sure the goods arrived, and just to let them know if they have any problems to give you a call - then heres the contact details... maybe even a little note to show you have thought of them and are available if needed?? I use email to communicate with many of my customers as i work full time and during the day i don't get a lot of time to use the phone - i have found this works well, too.
marina replied:
I never do follow up phonecalls to see if they are happy with their purchases. In my line, I find there is no need to. They know what they are getting on the day as they have purchased the product on the day.....
