Go through your diary and highlight long weekends and public holidays. These are 'extra' good nights to hold demonstrations. They give you an extra day to your working weekend.
For example: Brisbane has 'show day' on Wednesday in August. I always aim to book the Tuesday night as people don't have to get up early for work on Wednesday. I encourage them to make it a wine and cheese night. Have a few drinks or maybe a theme party.

i never have any luck booking parties on the long weekend, i'm not sure if it's because half of canberra goes away lol

Don't forget show days as well - they are weekdays and often in the middle of the week so people haven't gone away... I know a lot of people who don't go to the show on that day, preferring instead to stay at home (including me!), but there's another day up your sleeve!

Yes, we have one coming up, I always book the Tuesday night for a party as they have the Wednesday in Brisbane to recover. We score a few different ones that week , because each of our shires takes a different 'show' day holiday!!!
