Rude Woman!

Discussions : Off your chest... : Rude Woman!

Last night I went to get a quote to get new lenses put into the frames of my glasses.  Well!  The woman behind the counter (who has been rude to my husband in the past) said to me: oh look at this scratching!  What did you do to them? I said I hadn't done anything to them.  So she said How long have you had them? I said maybe 2 years - she took hers off and said I've had these 18 months and look no scratches.  She then said: there's no point you getting anti-glare for the computer or night driving anymore, its just not right for you.

Hello?? What? Isn't that MY decision?

She didn't take into account that

a) Cameron takes them off my face and throws them

b) They have been dropped, knocked off the table, bent because of the baby grabbing them, goodness knows what happened to them when they were taken away by the nurses when I went in for the emergency c-section;

c) They have been on my face nearly full time since I got them.  I have had things hit me in the face, my rings have clinked against them when I've rubbed my eyes, they have clinked with my husband's glasses; BUT
d) I look after them as best as I can because we can't afford to replace them (hence why only getting lenses when I really need new frames as well).  I clean them properly (the woman said: you must be cleaning them with a dry cloth - well of course I do, AFTER spraying them with cleansing fluid!), they live in their case when I'm not wearing them...

I walked out of that optometrists' office feeling embarrassed and awkward.  What makes her think that she can treat me like that? I'm an adult, not a child!

When I told Kev he said I should go to the optometrists' round the corner.  And I think I will - I'm so cranky I definitely don't want to go back to that one.

Thanks for listening

I understand your frustration. I would have said in a voice loud enough to hear what I thought of her rudeness and then asked to speak to the manager - that sort of attitude towards a customer is inexusable. I would then have said forget it we will be taking our business elsewhere in future and telling friends and family to do the same.

Could you imagine how many clients we would lose if we treated them like this! People generally don't lose customers because of the products - it tends to be the relationship between the customer and consultant

I agree, she is a very rude person and should go and get some 'people skills'!

  Lauren, I use to be an optical assistant at one stage.  She should of explained that the anti glare lenses are a coating over the top of the normal permagaurd lenses, therefore it scratches even easier than your existing lenses would.  They are also very hard to keep clean and pick up fingerprints constantly, you therefore need to use a special microfibre cloth designed just for these lenses - no spray - as the spray can lift off the coating.

There are much nicer ways of telling you than how she did, because you have come away not knowing what she was talking about!  Bad service.  Anti glare lenses are great for the computer and night driving, but do take a little more up keep.  They usually cost more too,  so, with little Cam around, maybe they are not the best option.

 Still, whatever you decide I hope that this bit of info helps.  Information is power!
