How easy is it to remember your 9 x tables with this (the kids will love it) - you might have to grab a piece of paper to write it down methodically to get it - first write the sums - then the first line of answers is written 1 to 8 and then the 2nd line of answers is written 8 to 1 - then look back, put the first and second column together and see the correct answer to each 9 x problem - hope this makes sense................just a bit of trivia for you
2 x 9 = 1 8
3 x 9 = 2 7
4 x 9 = 3 6
5 x 9 = 4 5
6 x 9 = 5 4
7 x 9 = 6 3
8 x 9 = 7 2
9 x 9 = 8 1

This is a good trick, but I just use my hands to figure out 9 times tables

This is probably the only one thing my kids have actually learnt at school the same way as me. I can't beleive the difference in the maths, etc. - and mine are still only primary school! God help me when my "big boy" hits high school next year. Its funny how the method of solving is all different but it still comes up with the same answer.
My kids and I learnt this way. Which ever number you are multiplying by 9 you know your answer will start with the number before it - then you just add on which ever number takes it back up to 9. (Gosh hard to explain like this).
But say its 3 x 9 - the answer must start with a 2 (the number before 3) and then you just put the number 7 after the 2 as 2+7 = 9. Soooooooo 3 x 9 = 27
If your answer doesnt up to 9 then you know you need to try again.

I didn't know that one - but I like it. Looks like the '9's have all the fun!!!

I always thought the nine times tables were the easiest anyhow, but when I stopped teaching I actually learnt the 9* finger trick aswell, it was fantastic and I know use it with my neice to teach her as she is just as clueless as me when it comes to maths (hehe).

I have 2 university degrees... one completely maths related... I have no idea what you are describing hush!! LOL!
But here is a 'magic' trick probably related to this..
TRY IT YOURSELF NOW !!! :
Think of a number between 1 and 10
Multiply it by 9
Add the 2 digits together (eg, if the number is was 24 then 2+4=5)
Subtract 5 from this number
Count this many letters through the alphabet (eg 1=A, 2=B etc)
Think of a country that starts with this letter
Think of the second letter of this country
Now think of an animal that starts with this letter
Think of the colour of this animal...
The colour is GREY !
Yes?
(I you thought of Denmark > Elephant > Grey )

WoW!!! I didnt even look at your answer and you were right, I had the same answer as you...ha ha
.
Good trick.........Good party game too!!

That's just bizarre.............
It's something you have to write down and visualize methodically........and after enough times you will know your 9 x tables, lol

Here is another one. We used to use this at the club to check on people's ages.
Choose a number between 1 & 10.
Double it - then add 5
Multiply by 50
Add the number 1756
Now deduct the year of your birth
If you have already had a birthday this year add 1 otherwise leave as is
The first digit reveals the chosen number, the second two your age.
.
I know it is long, but the uni students used to love it. It WILL work every year. The secret is to add 1 to the number 1756 every year.
.
Also when trying to add columns of figures up & cross check them by adding the totals across, if they do not add up & the difference is divisible by nine, then you have more than likely transposed two figures somewhere in the columns.
For God's sake, just don't ask me HOW these work.
