I had planned our Easter weekend for weeks - my daughter turned 13 today (Easter Sunday) - and instead of a party asked to go in with the dolphins at Seaworld.  I was wrapped with the idea as a party full of 13 year olds was not my idea of fun.

So, in my planning, I used wotif etc etc - and found suitable accomodation (I won't mention name) - booked it weeks in advance.  4 stars - reputable company - pool/spa etc.  Also, decided we would stay 2 nights, and buy a 2 pass park to theme parks - allowing us to go to Seaworld and Movie World.

So we went to Movie World on Good Friday.  My girls had a blast, took a heap of photos - to scrapbook in my spare time (eventually - one day).  After a big day, headed off to book into motel at Burleigh. Got to motel about 5ish - booked in - paid 2 nights.  Unpacked car and went to room. Lift stops about 3 inches below motel floor - thought maybe this is a one off??   Open door - just knew it then - this was NOT right!!  Very substandard room for the price and 4 stars.  First thing noticed, the bedside lamp was snapped in two pieces.  So we rang down to reception to inform them immediately so we wouldn't be charged.  Kids went down to have a swim and spa.  Checked out info book, including mini bar prices - mini bar - what mini bar???  Nothing but a handful of mini milks in there.  Info book also states flybuys - was I asked if I had flybuys ? No. 

Kids come back and say spa is not working and pool fence is broken.  Ok, I say, not the end of the world, only 2 days here.  They jump in to have a shower.  In the shower with one glass door.  (where 2 doors should be - so doesn't matter which end you put the door - the floor gets saturated with water!)  Starting to get annoyed by this stage - hubby says, relax.  I ring the 1800 number for main company and leave message on machine stating I WILL BE calling them on Tuesday to make further complaint. 

Teenage to be daughter goes to use hairdryer and gets a ZAP from power point, where the automatic soap/shaving foam/shampoo dispenser is placed above power point and is leaking on to it.  OK - THIS IS IT!!!!  I tell hubby I am going to speak to manager, something has to be done - this is ridiculous. 

 

I go back downstairs - fuming - but keeping it together.  Ask the receptionist if manager is available.  She goes to get a very casually dressed guy.  I explain, calmly all of the above.  He explains - oh the spa broke a few days ago - got to get it fixed - fair enough - though I did book it on the condition there was a pool/spa.  He says, well I can't get another door for the shower - I said, it should of been fixed in the first place - he offers extra towels to put on the floor - I decline!!!  He doesn't know anything about the light - and wonders why cleaners didn't mention it.  He doesn't know anything about the power point (fair enough) - and says will get electrician to investigate tomorrow (just don't use it tonight!) - um what about the rest of the power in the room - is it safe??  Says, sorry can't do anything about lift - that is a maintenance issue.  Hello ????  Then says, so what do you want me to do for you?? I said, what can you suggest to me?? I don't know, what do you want??? I asked, if we leave now, how much is this going to cost us?  - He replies, nothing I will give you a refund.

So, I go back up stairs, we quickly back, hubby and kids not happy, but glad to be out of place.  It is now 6ish, where do we find somewhere on Good Friday night to sleep??  So we get our refund - paid in credit card - but get a cheque refund because of damn trust accounts.  Drive around - first place we stop is a BREAKFREE resort- Diamond Beach -  the receptionist was just lovely, offered a great price and said, do you want to view the apartment first.  WOW!!!  It was fantastic!!! Heaven was here at last.

 

So Saturday, we swim, play, muck around, go bowling.  Then I think - oh better charge the batteries for camera for tomorrow at Seaworld.  Go get the camera - yeah, I said, go find the camera.  Camera?? Camera ??? WHERE'S THE CAMERA ??

Seach high and low, search car.  Hubby says, last place he remember seeing it was beside bed in OTHER motel.   RACE back to there.  Explain to receptionist, she says, no the cleaners didn't hand it in, do you want to check it ??? (OK - so admit fault here - NO VACANCY sign is up, but the room we were in is not being rented out!!!)  Race up to room - surprise surprise, no camera!!  The broken bedside lamp is also gone.

Explain to receptionist, don't care about camera - just want the photos on the memory cards. (Digital camera - 2 x 1gig SD & 1 x 64meg SD cards - 8 rechargeable batteries) - Give sob story, leave number and PO box in hope they return something.

It was definitely the last place we had it.  Spoke to police - need to ring during week when back to normal hours - not much they can do, but they can go to motel and make it seem like its been an official complaint in the hope someone feels guilty and does something. (Will wait till cheque clears - haha)

Saturday night - very sad and upset.  Then start feeling weird in tummy.  And start to get THE BUG!!!  You know which BUG - the quick out of my way - got to make it to the toilet BUG!!!

Great - terrible nights sleep - wake up and go to Seaworld on Sunday.  That was fantastic, and guess what!!! I can tell you where EVERY Seaworld toilet is!!!!

Sorry to bore you all - just had to VENT to someone, somewhere..............

Oh hun.........  sounds like you had quiet the wkend oh dear!!!  The first place you were at sounds terrible and does sound suss about your camera( the cleaners prob scored it by sounds)  The second place sounds great i think i need a holiday haha(wishful thinking my next holiday is with the inlaws out bush hahahaha)

I think if this was me at that 1st crappy hotel u were in OMG I think I would have turned that place upside down & inside out...............The manager of the hotel wouldnt have known what hit em LOL
I really feel for u hope u feel better soon as well DAM BUG

awe Julie.... what a SHOCKER of a weekend you've had!! Reminds me of the "Griswald's Family Vacation" movies... poor gal. Hope everything works out well for you all in the end... this is certainly one Easter holiday you won't forget...

Hope your daughter ended up having a great 13th birthday yesterday all the same... I'm sure swimming with the dolphins would have been great!

Hey Jules,

You poor wee lamb.  Sorry you had a rough weekend, and sorry about the weather (we could have turned on a bit more sunshine for your visit...) You'll be happy to be home in one peice with your own bed, own shower, own power sockets....!  I'm sure the girls had a great weekend regardless, what a great mummy for making such a big effort for a birthday weekend!

Ok, left if till today, in hope some person would send me the sd cards.  Nope nothing. 

So here goes - Ring the hotel chain (mentioning names NOW!!!) - Best Western - explain each is indiviually owned and can claim it on their insurance policy.  She asks me to put it in writing to her to take up with them.

Before emailing her, I ring the motel - OUTRIGGER BURLEIGH - and double check it hasn't been handed in.  Spoke to a new receptionist and she knows nothing about it.  So she checks the lost and found book and the daily communications book .  There is NO record of my camera in there at all!!!!!!  She says she will speak to manager and ring me.  Not rung yet.  Sending email to Best Western NOW!!!
