Any single mums doing party plan?

Discussions : General discussion : Any single mums doing party plan?

Hi, i was wanting to know if anyone is a single mum and does party plan as their fulltime or part time job?

Do you know if Centrelink classify party plan as self employed and of 1st July for single parents to be working 15 hours minimum a week or lose money Or do we still need to go out and find a part time job?

Sorry Jane

Can't help you there.  I was once a single mum doing party plan, but things were different then.

I have to go to centrelink myself this week so I will try and remember to ask them this important question and get some firm clarification for you.

Cheers

Julie

Im not a single mum............. but i know some1 who is & is about to start party plan with me this month with regard to centrelink it comes under the "commision" banner and whenevever u earn anything from the party plan company then u simply let centrelink know & report what u have earnt & as for the 1st of july if u put 15hours plus into ur party plan business & u show centrelink all ur consultant forms when u joined (for whichever company u joined with) that this is what u do then this should be sufficiant enough not to have to get aanother "normal" hourly rate paid job...............this is what centrelink told this lady last week but it always pays to check in whatever state/office u deal with as they all have different opinions
dont know if this helps but thats what my friend told me

for everyone else,

this is correct, you will be classed as self employed and WONT have to look for extra work.... you will however have to put in Profit and Loss Statements EVERY 3 months

Thank you everyone, i will go and see centrelink this week to find out the correct details.

I went to see Centrelink this morning to get more information.  They told me that i have to still do at least 15 minimum hours a week even with party plan or earn $210 a week i think which is equivalent to 15 hours a week.  They gave me profit and loss forms and present them 3 months after i start party plan.  Also i had to find out an approximate amount of commission i would earn if i did 15 hours a week in parties for the first 3 months and They also asked me to find out how many parties are being held each week by consultants to earn at least $210 in commission.  Also after expenses paid out i still have to have at least $210 to claim every week.

It all sounds so confusing to me as i have never been self employed before.

Can anyone give me any ideas please from my last posted message?

I just got a bit confused there.. Did they say you have to do 15 hours per week OR earn $210 ? or you have to earn $210 regardless of how long it takes?

(If the answer is 'OR",  then how do they know how long you actually spent on your business?)

JanesHandmadeGifts replied:

Centrelink told me that $210 a week earnings (which is comparison to $14 per hour for 15 hours a week).   They told me i had to earn at least $210 commission a week and if not i had to work 15 hours a week plus if i choose to do party plan.  But how much do you know how much you are going to work each week anyway if you only do 2 to 3 parties a week in commission? That would only be around  6 to 7 hours a week work and that is not acceptable with centrelink so would hope to receive way over $210 per week in commission instead.

Whataheart replied:

Hi Jane,

Step 1 - Earn over $210pw....

Well based on 20% commission you would need to sell over $1050 a week.  This could be broken down to 3 x $350 parties a week or 1 x $1050 party.

Step 2 - Work at least 15 hours per week

Consider the fact that sitting around chatting with mums and eating cake is working. I could manage to do that for 15 hours a week    Keep in mind that you need to account for your time not only for attending the parties but also for doing paperwork, placing orders, packing thenm and delivering them as well.

I am not a single mum but I certainly tell my children and hiubby that I am working when I am on the computer emailing people and even when I am "training" in here!

It is also important to make time to promote your own business.  Taking a catalogue with you wherever you go means you are always "working:"  If you take one with you to Centrelink you should be able to knock 3 hours down in no time...LOL...just make sure you show it to someone!

Hi Jane

I'm not a single mum, and after reading your posts I'm glad I'm not. What used to annoy me with centrelink is every time you ask the same question you get a different answer. If I ever need them again at least I know with 2 average $300 parties a week, my commission would be $210.minimum, I wouldn't tell them that is only for 4 - 6 hours work! Hope it all works out for you in the end.

Thank you Melinda, at least now i can work out things.

I have a job interview on Tuesday afternoon so maybe i will get my 15 to 20 hours a week with this job anyway as i already have a cleaning job 2 to 4 hours a week.  Then i can also do party plan as well at nights and weekends.
